Ethics aside, is it legal or not for Trump to use the presidency to enrich himself? From what i hear he does all kinds of deals all the time. Like when meeting with China, Ivanka's brand got approved. He also met with some South American country for a personal deal or a privilege for one of his businesses and so on.

So what can he legally do and not? Does the constitution say anything about that?

To my understanding it's fairly settled that the President is exempt however there are smaller ethics issues that could come up. Plus that's what courts are for they decide vague stuff for us.

I believe we already have some threads about this.

However you may want to look up the emoluments article of the constitution. It in general proscribes that kind of action by the president.

It's toothless without congress being willing to use it to enforce appropriate behavior.

When and if the Dems take back congress expect the shit to hit the fan.

i would think the bigger potential legal problem is when his financial interests come before our national interests. Turkey and Erdogan being the most obvious recent example.

i consider that treason.

Technically, no it's not legal. Spelled out in the constitution. However, requires some backbone to enforce it. Lack of it currently.

We are talking about a man who's ethical egoism has a decades long history of self promotion at the expense of others. Why would any reasonable person expect a different outcome now that he holds the highest public office in the land? I might be a Republican but I certainly didn't vote for him nor can I condone much of his behavior and I resist calls by the church/organized religion to support him.
