Legacy of the Void

I hadn't gotten an invite nor known the beta was live. Just saw it on the bnet launcher when I was updating Hearthstone. If they're in beta now, guess we can expect it in 6 months.

it is sort of dead, not many people watching the games anymore, no big tournies and prizepools like there were for a year or two after launch

Any thoughts on why it's died off ? The original Starcraft was huge for such a long time. I remember once broadband started making it into homes it was all Diablo 2, Starcraft and Counterstrike for me when I was in high school.

I'm surprised the 2nd has died off. Maybe the MOBA market in LOL and DOTA 2 is just too big now for Starcraft 2 to have much impact. I played 2 for a bit and enjoyed it, but I don't have time and likely the skill to play competitive online like I did when I was younger.

The game is still very much alive and well. I watch StarCraft II constantly and there are tournaments on all the time. It will contract if there isn't anything fresh added into the game, but it's solid. It's just not as popular as the online arena games like LoL and Dota2, but it's solid.

Legacy of the Void is a much needed thing though and adds some fresh changes that I find very enjoyable. It's not that Heart of the Swarm is bad. It's actually very well balanced. It's just that I think HOTS has some hard counters built into the game that make certain compositions completely ineffective in a tournament/league setting. There are units and compositions that you just *don't* see used, like ever. LotV hopes to address some of that, as well as speed up the very early game where you're just mining and building stuff.

Also, SC2 is larger than Brood War ever was.

Mind listing some good places to watch? I have a few subs on YouTube but they've all either switched to other games or stopped uploading entirely. I don't play SC2 much but I still like to watch the pros play.

Any idea of release date? I dont really have the skills to play online multiplayer, but will probably buy it for the single player campaign.

It's been so long though, I may have to go back and replay the first two installments just to refresh my memory of the story so far. I hope they bring everything together into a nice finale.

Team Liquid is an excellent source to find online tournaments. They'll always have news updates and links to watch the streams:

You can also go to www.twitch.tv and browse for Starcraft II. There's a WCS Tournament going on right now actually.
