Valve announced plans to update its co-op zombie shooter Left 4 Dead (PC, X360) today, revealing that a "Survival Pack" will be released this spring.

The DLC will include a new multiplayer mode titled Survival, as well as two complete campaigns for the game's existing Versus Mode. No additional details were released.

A Critic's Choice Edition of the game will head to retail stores at the same time, offering the original game plus the Survival Pack content.

Valve also noted it will release the Software Development Kit for the game this spring. With the SDK, players will be able to create custom campaigns and levels for the game.

Electronic Arts recently revealed Left 4 Dead sold 1.8 million copies at retail in North America since the game's November 18 release. That number does not include Steam sales, which Valve doesn't release publically.

Valve has their own agreement with EA. If I understand correctly, Valve has near complete creative control of what they want to make. They just use EA to put the games on shelves so they can concentrate on making games and Steam.

Yeah thats how it starts, its subtle. They publish your games, theyre really nice to you, they convince you to sell them shares in exchange for a biiig cushy chair some candy and a few wads of cash and before you know it, you are EA's bitch, your game has 10 sequels in the making and half the people you used to work with have left. I call it EA creep. Common phenomenon in the industry.

I also blame EA. :frown:

On a more on-topic note, i hope there will be maybe 1 new campaign. The two versus ones will just be dead space and that other one with the trains, which you can kinda already get in versus, its buggy though and dosent entirely work.

At first I thought this meant two new campaigns, but it sounds like it is just unlocking the other two campaigns for Versus Mode. Hopefully this Survival mode is cool, otherwise this isn't all that exciting.

I wonder if they'll charge for this... sounds like too little for it to cost but then again console gamers pay wads of cash for even the most insignificant DLC, wonder if it'll cost on the PC...

Hasn't Valve always been very outspoken against charging for DLC content on the PC?

The 360 is a different story (one that involves MS).
