I think it is glaringly obvious that here is no meaningful distinction between "left and right" in the media any more. The network news does not "lean left", and it is not "balanced" by Fox and others "leaning right". It is a broken system. The news media in this country exists only to serve those with power (Democrats, Republicans, corporations, etc.). They are nothing more than a mouthpiece for the powerful operating under the guise of journalism. The side game they play is pitting left vs right (and offering that as evidence of their "balance"), so all the little serfs (anyone without real power, ie., most of us) will have something to argue over. As if there is any meaningful distinction between Democrats and Republicans (remember, it's bi-partisan consensus that the right thing to do now is raid social security, lock up suspected "terrorists" for life without ever bringing charges, simultaneously attack 3-5 muslim countries, immunize telecoms for helping illegally spy on US citizens, torture an American Citizen - Bradley Manning - who has been convicted of nothing, etc etc etc). There used to be a "watchdog" media that would challenge these things in the public arena. Now, they just get a Democrat and a Republican who basically agree with each other to scream on TV for two and a half minutes and call it balance. But it keeps the serfs arguing against each other instead of against the corrupt power structure. Divide and conquer. We're all pawns in their game. Keep arguing "left vs right" - see where it gets you.
