Anything I should do besides towel it off? It's pretty damn wet in there... seats are soaked. It's all going to bake in the sun for the next few hours because I have to goto bed.. =\

Go to a self service car wash and use their Vac. Then put down soem towels and leave the windows cracked, if it is not going to rain more.

You'll obviously need "ass protection" if you're driving somewhere right now. :laugh:

You could also try kitty litter - the type with the crystals. This is silica gel and a decently powerful dessicant. It will pull considerable moisture from the air. As long as it's only saturated by the air you can recharge it by microwaving in a ceramic or pyrex dish to drive the moisture out and turn the moisture indicators blue again.

Depending on how new the car is and how well you want to clean it up, you might even consider pulling the seats and center console out and pulling out the carpet completely, and drying everything off and ensure no electrical connections got soaked. Then get yourself a brand new piece of OEM molded carpet, and possibly even new seats.

Water damage is something that you can't really make right again without stripping it down and replacing things. You'll have mildew and stains, electrical problems, and possibly rust, if you just try to let it dry out. The water is now under the carpet and all over the floor pan, not just the places that feel wet on the surface.

how bad is it? if it's like, 'standing water in the floor' bad, pulling the carpets is the only sure way to get everything dry. if everything just seems damp, i'd just air it out with the windows down for while (keep an eye on the weather...).

It's not standing water, but it was definitely very soaked. blah... hope it doesn't get all stinky

It's probably too late to wet vac now too, too soaked in to the seats

Great, now my ABS light is on. Looks like the rain broke shit. I'm sure that'll cost a few hundred to fix.

I don't want to ruin your day here, and I know I made a flip comment before, but you've got a big problem on your hands now.

The advice you got to remove the carpeting was a good one. It truly should be stripped down to the floorboards and thoroughly dried. Below the carpet is a layer or multiple layers of insulation. That stuff is like a sponge. You asked about it getting stinky, well yes, it's going to get stinky if you don't do anything.

Any wiring connectors that got soaked need to get dried out almost immediately to keep corrosion from forming. You'll be fighting electrical gremlins from now until the car leaves your possession.
