Left speaker sound cutting out on my 6-year old PC speakers...

I've had my Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers for 6 years now, and for a while now the left speaker's been giving me issues. Sometimes the left speaker will cut out completely, leaving me with sound only coming out of the right speaker. When I jostle the green plug, connected to my sound card, I can get the sound back, but it takes a little effort and usually involves pulling on the cable or bending it. Even then, the left speaker still cuts out after a while, that or if I accidentally move the cable, it'll go out again. It's really annoying.

These are the plugs these speakers have (which is attached to my right speaker):

My sound card (also 6 years old) is a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS SB0350 7.1 Channel PCI card, and I know it can't be the slot on my card, because other speakers and devices work fine on it, with no left speaker troubles.

Is there a way to fix this, or do I need to get myself some new speakers?

If you have basic soldering skills and the tools, soldering new wires would likely fix your problem since it sounds like a short near the plug. It's essentially the same as putting new wires on headphones.

haha i had that same problem pretty much. Though the cause was a ferret who nibbled on the cable. But move the cable and it would cut out. And at other times make super loud pop. But yep trimmed the cable back ~6 inches (due to the ferret bite) and soldered and it worked just fine

The cables are pretty standard, they use standard stereo 3.5mm (1/8") TRS headphone connectors. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a replacement online or at RadioShack.

You might want to test first to see if the cable that's the problem however, and not the jack on the speakers or somewhere else. Swap the green front left/right for the black rear left/right cable on both ends. If the front left speaker works fine, but the rear left speaker starts giving you trouble then you can be pretty sure that it's the cable that's the problem.

The wires connecting the speakers to the sound card only have TRS connectors on one end, they go directly into one of the satellites on the other end, so he can't reverse them.
He said other speakers work fine with the sound card, so it pretty much has to be the green connector/wire shorting.

Unfortunately I don't have any soldering experience..should I just replace the speakers? I can't replace the wire by other means because it's embedded into the right speaker.

If you can't solder (and don't know anyone that can), that's pretty much your only option.
You could sell them to someone who does know how to solder to recoop some of the cost of some new speakers.

It could be a lot of other things. I'd still swap the front and back on the soundcard side and see what happens before attempting any repairs.
