yeah, rest it if possible. if not, pop ibuprofens, ice it afterwards.

heat might ease it to (just not right after exercising), like in the bathtub or something.

I've used this excuse for a snarlin before... ;)

Seriously, hot tub will help relax things...

yes, hot tub or a massage works for me. also stretching it out and relaxing.

Ibuprofen, a few days off work, and a week and a half on crutches did the trick for me when I had the same problem last year.

One warning though, dont rush it, when it starts to feel better give it a couple more days before you try doing everyday things, very easy to re-injure just doing normal walking and rising from a seated position.

For any sore, torn, or pulled muscle, the best way to heal is to heat the muscle, stretch it, and then ice it down. When you aren't heating/stretching, you should keep it iced. You can heat/stretch once or more per day, but otherwise keep it iced. Inflamation and irritation of the muscle is caused by chemical reactions that occur in the injured tissue. To keep the inflamation and irritation to a minimum, ice the affected area in order to slow down the reactions.

if you are laying down, is there any kind of "bump" in the area that is sore?

if yes,
can you push the bump back down?
if yes,
hernia. go to doctor, get operation.

if no to anything, try something else....

Get your wife / girlfriend to massage your leg. That should help to relax it and reduce the pain.
