Left/Right mouse has no effect in W2K taskbar

This is a pretty fresh installation of Windows 2000 SP4 and not infrequently I am finding the last few days that I have no mouse support in the taskbar. I have to start programs from my desktop or startup folder - I have mouse support for icons on the desktop. Using Logitech optical mouse. What can I look at in an effort to stop this from happening? Thanks for any help.

Reinstall mouse software and see if that helps any. The Logitechs can be flakey IMHO
