Left for Dead and single core CPU

Is left for dead playable on a single core CPU? Anyone try...?

I've only made the switch LAST week to dual core. Prior used an OPteron 144 at 2.9ghz. so Basically a 5ghz pentium 4 for reference. Game ran perfectly EXCEPT when hosting. THe load is too high for HOSTING on a single core.

754 3200+ @ 2.5 and it runs perfectly. hosting is fine i never had full server though. game likes ram especially if you try to alt-tab.

L4D loves multicore (lots of processing to be done when you have huge hoards running around) but single core is definitely playable

multicore is only necessary if you want bleeding edge performance for competitive play and all the eye candy

I run L4D on my fathers althon 3400 and seems to do ok... and a ati 1650x...though I think the graphics card is more important if you want some nice visuals.

Holy cow there is actually another person in the world that has a Socket 754 3200+... I seriously thought I was the only one! haha

It ran fine on that guy but the video card would drop frames when there were mass amounts of zombies (well, more zombies than normal... well.. more than your average.. horde attack..)

The AMD3200+ in my sig is also a socket 754 which I bought first day it was out...(and soon a friend of mine will take over it)

L4D2 can be a little more demanding (the updated gore system for instance demands more processing power, but that can be turned off to save performance) but for the most part the requirements are still the same.

Like I said before, "multicore is only necessary if you want bleeding edge performance for competitive play and all the eye candy"

heh actually i think it was a common 754 cpu it's just most people upgraded by now. I had a 2800 newcastle then i upgraded to this 3200 venice which overclocked a bit better

I do too. Mine's still at stock, though, the PSU won't let any of the fans run if the CPU is overclocked.

It ran fine on my AMD64 3000 at 1680x1050. I think I had it on medium settings, but everything ran smoothly.

Wow. There's some old school CPU's checking in here.

My brother is still on the 754 2800+ I built for him like 5 years ago or so. It's paired with an unlocked pipe/vertex shader 6800nu. How's that for old school awesomeness?!
