I got a Curry Supreme, which is white rice, chicken, beef, shrimp, and curry sauce for lunch today. It will have sat in my car about 5 hours before I get home, and my car can get pretty hot as it's sunny and I have leather upholstery. I'm really only concerned about the shrimp. Can I still eat this stuff when I get home, or will I get horrible food poisoning?

I would not eat it.

Also I would not ride in your car, because it must really stink at this point.

Go ahead and enjoy it...maybe more than once.

After all, what's the worst that can happen?

You're an idiot. The only reason it would go bad that fast is because of bacteria or something getting to it. Food doesn't go bad like that in 5 hours just because of heat if its in a closed case, even shrimp.

Yes, I'm an idiot for not taking a chance on possibly spoiled food. I'd rather be safe than barfing.

I would err on the side of caution.

I made the mistake of eating some left over Thai food a few weeks ago that apparently had been left in a car overnight (not to my knowledge).

Ended up spending my Monday in my bathroom. Not fun.

People get really scared/nervous with food/leftovers. My gf throws things away so fast even if they're in the fridge.. 'its old!' food doesnt go bad after a few hours.

Darwinism should take care of you.

Anyways:

"Foods held at temperatures above 40 °F for more than 2 hours should not be consumed."

source: http://www.fsis.usda.gov/FactS..._Food_Safety/index.asp

"Always refrigerate perishable food within 2 hours (1 hour when the temperature is above 90 °F)."

"Leftovers:

* Discard any food left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature was above 90 °F).
* Place food into shallow containers and immediately put in the refrigerator or freezer for rapid cooling.
* Use most cooked leftovers within 3 to 4 days. (See chart.)
