Left 4 Dead crashes alot - Anybody else have this problem?

Just wondering if it's just my system or what, but Left 4 dead keeps on crashing when I play. I'll be in the middle of a game and it will just crash, it is just random to.

I'm wondering if this is a Vista issue or something? Another poster in one of the other Left 4 dead threads said it is really common.

Specs:

Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit
Radeon 3870 Video card with Catalyst 8.6

Going to update my video card drivers and see if that does anything, but I doubt it.

Used to, not so much anymore. I occasonally get a sound looping freeze but when i minimize i hear the game start to go again so i maximize and everything is fine.

I use to get a crash about every 40 minutes but not anymore. So far played Left 4 Dead early demo for 50 hours +

I've only tried to play twice. I get disconnected tons or I crash... within 20 minutes. Just deleted old ati drivesr and installed catalyst 8.10

I'm using crossfire. Idk. First time it was a display driver error. Second time I don't even know, it just froze and sound kept repeating. >.<!

I never had the display driver error but when left 4 dead would crash for me it would freeze like every 40 minutes with the sound loop you are speaking of. It was very annoying. Though I am on Vista 64 bit with a Geforce 8800 GTS 320.

It is not a video card or OS issue.

I had that happen before a lot. Did your sound start to loop constantly and you couldn't close game you alt tab ? Then you alt tab del to close the not responding left 4 dead ?

Vista Ultimate 32
GTX280
Beta drivers - 180.43

No crashes yet ... altho some online connex were dropped - my guess was the Valve servers were getting hammered ?

I had some really bad studdering on my first play right after the first map loaded but it went away after it all loaded fine. Everything else ran perfect.

i'm getting the sound loop stutter/freeze and have to task manager and go back into the game to continue on Vista with a 8800GT. I even tried the mat_queue cmd in console and windows no border mode with the same results, keeps stuttering every 5 mins or so and also, tried older nvidia drivers with no luck. Even ran my E8400 in single mode with the same results.

One thing failed to add to my earlier post - first time I tried to get into a game, I alt tabbed to go out to the 'Friends' menu to continue to chat with a friend to set up a game. When I alt-tabbed back into L4D, the menus on the left had disappeared, so I had to Task Man out of the game and restart the game. I had in the past disabled the Friends overlay based on an older issue I had in TF2, but enabled it again after Valve apparently fixed that with a patch.

I had crashes galore on my WinXP SP3 Radeon 4850 until I updated my catalyst drivers to the newest version. You may want to try that.

Crashes for me at about 10 minutes in each time...... Just kicks me out, no errors, nothing. Straight back to my desktop.

Rig:

C2Q 2.4, eVGA 780i SLI
Corsair Dominator 8GB DDR800
300gb Raptor
2x Asus 8800GT 512MB in SLI
Creative X-Fi, Vista Ultimate 64bit

Tried the "mat_queue_mode 0" command from the console, got farther than I have and then crashed again. Maybe this one was s fluke, but I doubt it.

The menus disappearing has happened to me in TF2 and CS:S before... but I found that they still exist. It takes a little work to navigate to the base menu, but after some trial and error, I found the Exit selection.
