Left 4 Dead, 360/PC Exclusive

One of the games I've been keeping on my radar is Left 4 Dead. I hoped it would be on the 360, and it will be... in an exclusive way.

The new game from the newly-acquired-by-Valve studio Turtle Rock Studios, Left 4 Dead has had a fair bit of press from the PC side of the gaming press, but we've heard relatively little in relation to a console version. Well that's over, as OXM recently revealed that the game will not only be appearing on PCs, but that the 360 version will be the only one appearing on any console. The folks from OXM got to play two scenario's (read: levels) on PC and one level on a 360 dev kit. As a minor point (but a good sign) the names of those levels recall the game's horror roots: "The Hospital" and "Cornfield."

The second part to this news is the identity of the developer who will be handling the 360 port (Valve and Turtle Rock won't be working with it hands-on). That dev is the creator of Halo 2 DLC, Certain Affinity. The 16 man team with former Halo team members will be "handle(ing) 360-specific elements like matchmaking, Live support, console customization, and 360 gameplay tweaks."

Handing the port off doesn't give me a good feeling about it. I guess we'll see if Certain Affinity is up to the task. They very well might be - I was skeptical of Splash Damage at first, and those guys seem to have a magic touch.

Now the big question is whether or not The MKR Group, New Line Cinema, and George Romero will sue because it is a game that has zombies and people shooting at zombies while trying to survive.

Careful, you might be liable for using the z-word--especially in combination with some of those other words. They're eerily similar to this movie I saw recently...

Awesome. I was hoping this game would hit a console. Couldn't care less if it's on a PC since I would be playing at 800x600 or something similar.

I read that the PC version will not have voice communication, but the 360 version will. Supposedly there will be like 100 pre-recorded things to say to your teammates.

I think that is dripping with lame sauce.

I WAS looking forward to playing this on PC, but not if there isn't voice comm.

If that's true, that's just dumb. Hopefully Valve will change that now that it's the own Turtle Rock. All their other games have voice chat so I don't see why they wouldn't add it in.

This isn't a Valve game. Different devs (Turtle Rock) who were purchased by Valve last month.
