Left 4 Dead 2 melee smoker tongue

While in a game of left 4 dead 2 over the weekend, this survivor kept melee'ing the smoker tongue. 3 times in a row I grabbed him, and 3 times he got loose. It was not until melee fatigue kicked in that I was finally able to grab him with the tongue on the 4th try.

Earlier in the game I grabbed the same player from behind with the tongue, he spun around and knocked the tongue loose as the pull started.

Any youtube videos or instructions telling how this was done?

The pull from behind makes me wonder if the guy was not using some kind of cheat. How do you spin around 180 degrees and knock the smokers tongue loose as its starting to pull?

It's always been that way. They're only able to do that for a second or two, so the player needs good reflexes or luck.

its always been possible if you are fast enough, you have .5-1 second or so to react.
