I think it is dispicable the way our government has treated Lee in prison for the last 278 days and the hell the government put his family through.
Racial profiling? Your damn straight!!!!
But the feds wanted Lee to sign away his right to sue for an unjust prosecution and encarseration.
I want to vomit. Screw the FBI! Its time for an overhaul of the gestapo tactics of this administrations judicial a##holes.

IMHO,lest anyone be offended.

It's on the frontpage of NYTIMES.
"Dr. Wen Ho Lee, the former Los Alamos scientist accused of mishandling nuclear secrets, walked free from prison under a plea agreement after the judge in the case apologized to him."

I am glad they let him go. Obviously they did not have a leg to stand on, or they never would have released him. As I stated before though, I don't so much think this was racist, as he was a convenient scapegoat at the time.

That poor guy deserves beter treatment from our government. And he's from Taiwan no less! As I've said before I don't think a Taiwanese would sell out to Communist China. Whatever happened to due process and fair trials?

Did you see the press conference of that N.Y. Prosecutor. He came off as a super-a$$hole. He said "Lee committed a crime, he feels remorse, he paid for that crime [time served]" Then a reporter says "Isn't it delusional to think you guys didn't lose this case?" It was hilarious. I can't believe that guy represented our government.

The director of the FBI downloads Top Secret info to his home computer and barely gets a mention, but an oriental does it, and probably without any intent to steal secrets, and he gets hammered.
Our oriental friends here in America need to learn that it's ok to complain, and loudly. I don't hear enough complaining from the Taiwanese, American Chinese, etc.
This was a shameless excercise in political and legal demagoguery. Someone should hang Richardson by his fingernails for a week. I can't stand that numbskull.

All I know is that somebody sold out Los Alamos to the Chinese. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Bill Clinton himself who went down there to steal whatever in exchange for a blowjob from his favorite Asian porn star... More likely however, is that this Lee and perhaps others were involved in it, but covered their tracks well enough not to be prosecuted. Lets not forget that he pleaded guilty to "having unauthorized possession of, access to, and control over documents and writings relating to the national defense". Lets not also forget that Lee refused to cooperate with prosecutors in telling them where he put seven tapes which he admitted to stealing. Sounds pretty serious to me :p

Cybersax:

He's probably guilty ONLY of doing what many people do when handling classified info, breaking the rules. Many security lapses happen every day. 99.999% of them are NOT intended to pass information to a foreign government. Big difference.

While in graduate school I worked as a security guard at a defense contractor's office (ABM project). I fell asleep inside a locked door and when my shift supervisor came, looked inside and saw me asleep, he had to fill out a ream of paperwork to report a security breach. Fortunately, I wasn't fired, but they had the FBI there within 4 hours to do a thorough check of the building.

Lee is a scapegoat for some stupid government bureaucrats who screwed up by not maintaining security standards. The security problems at Los Alamos go back to the 80's, at least. It is an institutional problem, not an individual problem.

I have no doubt Lee got royally screwed.
