The band's new live three-CD set, How the West Was Won, will debut at #1 on next week's Billboard albums chart, having sold more than 150,000 copies, according to SoundScan. The package features songs recorded during four 1972 concerts in California. The two-disc DVD released the same day, "Led Zeppelin," sailed to the top slot on the video chart, having sold almost 120,000 copies, the most ever for a music DVD in its debut week. Zeppelinmania also caused the band's compilation Early Days and Latter Days: Vol. 1& 2 to rise 34 spots to #135.

i bought a new DVD/vhs video combo player,yesterday,and the New Led Zeppelin DVD
I have been watching the first dvd,its Awesome!

i should have gone and seen this group live,when i had the chance.. i was old enough...

right now watchin Dazed and Cofused,live,it looks like they are playing at a college,a small theater;
and the place is not full up,it was in France,at the end Robert Plant said,Thank you;Merci..

I hate to revive such an old thread, but I want to add that this album disproves any thought that kazaa or other p2p networks have hugely adverse effects on music sales

fact is, music today just can't compare to this stuff....I could have downloaded these songs off of the internet, but good lord it is just such an incredible CD that I had to buy it.

Cool, they were definitely pioneers (not the only ones and I am not saying that).

They also existed in a day and age where talent was found and not created...also when the musicians could run their own show even if it killed their careers almost, today's bands are forced to 're-release' the same album over and over again.

I will have to check this set out

You should get Led Zeppelin DVD. It rocks. There is a killer version of Immagrant Song (I think it is the same one on the CD) on the second disk.

Is it worth getting this CD set if you already own all the Zep CDs? I'm not usually a big fan of live recordings but if it's worth it, this may actually get me to buy a CD for the first time in about 8 years.

I agree with you, bigben, this definately puts the lie to claim that CDs don't sell in the age of P2P. If it's worth it, people will buy it.

It is definitely worth it. Zep never plays a song the same way twice. The first CD is 10 songs long, but the next two only have 4 each. The first song on cds 2 and 3 are both about 25 minutes long. In those songs (Dazed and Confused and Whole Lotta Love) they start off with that song, then Jimmy does some solo stuff, then improv, then they throw in part of The Ocean, then the Crunge I think, and a few other riffs from other songs, then some more solos, then finish off with the proper song ending. Soooo sweet.


Honestly though, I think the DVD is better, particularly the first one. That version of "I Can't Quit You Babe" is soooo sweet.
