I am building my rig for scientific computing and already discussing here. I am confused about which monitor I should choose among following. I would like to go a monitor with LED backlighting support. I used 'newegg.com' reviews to short list these monitors, but I am open to suggestions.

(Order does not indicate precedence)
  • ASUS VS247H-P
  • ASUS VE248H
  • ASUS VH238H
  • ASUS VH242H
  • Dell ST2420L
I could not discover or guess what ASUS series VS/VH/VE/VK stand for. Also I am not comfortable with ASCR (ASUS name for dynamic contrast ratio) but could not find static ratios too. My budget is between 150 and 200 (equivalent Indian Rupees 10-12K after taxes).

Shopping for computer monitors by remote control is risky. The monitors which you list seem to score around 8.8 on the Test Freak site: http://www.testfreaks.com/monitors/

Based on the pricing, they all seem to be TN panels. If at all possible, try to take a look at the candidates before committing to purchase. Otherwise, I would just read the buyers reviews. Some of the listed panels seem to have greater than average reliability risks (based on user reports).

Hmm! I There is one model Asus ML238H which has eIPS panel, sort of value for money. Reviews also praise it in general. What say you?

Lol doesn't matter what i say, what matters is if you find a review with credibility like those on xbitlabs, many sites review and don't really test much of anything, and then say its pretty good, it has no meaning. i don't know if there are as good reviews for that monitor out there, you'll have to look, i'm too lazy:D

Yeah ! In fact, I am desperately looking for good reviews. However, I trust reviews of verified owners on sites such newegg and amazon.

I too value this quality ():) But I appreciate your help indeed !

As you suggested, I found a detailed review of Asus ML239H with IPS panel.
In earlier post, I mistakenly put Asus ML238H assuming that it has IPS panel instead.

I am just suggested to have a look at Dell UltraSharp U2211H and U2312HM. Between these two, I am in favour of U2312HM as it is thin due to LED backlighting. Review too praises it.

I am thoroughly confused now. :'(
