LED-LCD, edge lit. Marketing muck...

Im trying to find a decent LED-LCD (sub 47"), but it seems that marketing has taken over when disclosing whether LCDs are LED edge-lit or arrayed. How does one distinguish the marketing from the product with these things? I want an arrayed LED-LCD. I have seen LED edge-lit LCDs advertised as LED TVs, and i thought, "wow, they are doing LED TVs at the pixel level now? Awesome." Only to dig and discover the truth. So, what is the best sub 47" LED-LCD that is arrayed that i can find?

If it's really thin then it's edge lit, if it's really expensive then it is locally dimming back lit (Note that not all LED back lit have local dimming, in which case they are really no better than edge lit.). I believe Sony makes (or is that made?) the best LED-LCD TVs.

Sony XBR line (XBR46HX909 or XBR46HX929)...

Edge-lit LED in my experience looked worse than a CCFL backlight, and back-lit LED is pretty much the same while costing more.

So either save the money and get a regular CCFL 120Hz (like 46EX500), or go all out with the XBR.

Vizio has some cheaper full-array LED sets, but that kind of depends on how you feel about Vizio...

The XVT series from Vizio are easily the best picture for your buck in LCD tvs out there. Full array LED and you can pick one up starting a little over $1200 for 46"+.

If you can, just get a plasma.
