nope, happy for a local guy though, by all accounts hes a good kid, stays out of trouble, helps his family, respects his mother, a good role model for the younger kids in his area.

I have a problem with people who suggest he shouldnt go to the pros from college, why waste time developing your game to prepare for the NBA, when you can develop it IN the NBA? With the money his first contract will draw he will always have the chance to pursue any education he desires even if he does fail. Would he be so bad off if at age 22 his contract wasn't picked up and not one other team wanted to take a shot at him, not likely, and he was back on the street, 25-30 million dollars richer?

who said anything about lebron starting in his first year? after the draft and they work him out... i think they'll probably have him come off the bench and ease him into the league. they won't just toss him out there... unless he really impresses in the preseason.

nope, just relating things people who are in the know have said, like,
From Espn.com and SI:
Dec. 1, 2001: In its second game of the season, SVSM defeats nationally ranked Germantown Academy (Pa.), 70-64, in Akron. After the game, Germantown coach Jim Fenerty, who saw the L.A. Lakers' Kobe Bryant play his senior year of high school, gives his assessment of LeBron: "Right now, he's a better overall player than Kobe when Kobe was a senior."
He emailed me after that game and said they just lost to probably the greatest HS player he'd ever seen, and he's seen plenty. He said as a junior LB was better than KB as a senior, didnt realize that. I'll take his word on it though.

I saw him play in Trenton, NJ a while back when he dropped 52 on some team from LA, and let me assure you, he is most definitely the real deal.

After watching a few of his clips, all I see him do is dunk on some 5-6 footers, make a few 3pters (nothing special), and a couple decent passes. And this is why he should be the #1 picK? HAH! This kid should go to college and spend a few years learning, just because you can dunk on some people shorter than you are, doesnt mean you should go to the NBA.

I guess the NBA scouts, the best college/NBA announcers are all wrong as well, right?? This guy plays against Michael Jordan in the summer.......You have no idea what you are talking about. In addition, your statements only make you look like an idiot. Look at some of the top pro's in the NBA right now. Most of them didn't go to college. I'm sure they dunked on a bunch of 5'6"ers as well.....

I have no idea what I'm talking about? I watched a tape of his so called "best plays", and all I seem him doing is having a wide open dunk or shot. I'll give him credit that he's talented, but how many NBA teams have a high school rookie as a starter? In addition, YOUR statements only make you look like a dumbass. If this kid goes off to NCAA, he'll have alot of players his size to play with, so we can truely see if he's as good as hyped to be. Look at Carmelo Anthony, he looked really good in HS but made the smart move to go with Syracuse. This guy is for real, a Freshmen player that can win games for his team, he'll be top 5 easily if he goes to the draft.

yep. great move by 'Melo. go from the consensus number 2 pick to possibly the 3rd, maybe lower. and pissed on a year to make millions. and be a year farther away from the maximum deals for the real money. what are you, some kind of idiot savant without the savant? kids his size? you really do know nothing. take a guess how many D-1 players he played against this year. and last summer. and how many pro players he worked out with all summer. yeah, they're judging him by watching him play against your dumb ass. put the remote down, turn off ESPN, and whip me up something in the ol' EZ Bake oven will ya. put your time to better use.

Look man, I guess I'm really going to have to make you look dumb. Damn, I hate when people are so dumb. Anyways, it is funny how you totally disregarded my statements about how many NBA stars out there did not go to college. I guess that is irrelevant right? Please.....He will have his chance to "prove" himself next year in the NBA.

First, there is no way he would ever be allowed in any college. He has received far too many benefits over the past 3-4 years to go to college (he would be ruled ineligible). That is where you show your lack of hoops knowledge. That is an easy one.

To address your lame points anyways.......He does not need to go to college to play against people his size. He plays against NBA players all summer long. I guess you aren't aware of the fact that many NBA coaches said they would have taken him with the #1 pick after his junior year in high school. Look, since you know absolutely nothing about hoops I'm going to tell you the way it is. He is too good for college. You are a complete idiot if you think this guy should pass up $25 million to sign with Addidas/Nike and millions more from the NBA + additional endorsements.) What if he goes to college and blows out his knee? He won't see nearly as much as he would now!

Carmelo Anthony should have went to the NBA like Amare Stoudamire did. Stoudamire isn't doing too bad is he?

You lost any credability when you said that you saw a few clips and were not impressed and totally dismiss what current NBA players have to say about him.

heh darn. i was going to post that the NCAA already said he couldnt play.

i actually feel sorry for the kid. His parents (he only has a mother or si there a father in there?) are a bad influance. hopefully they get someone to help him with the pressure and responsbility he will have.

There was onother kid that came out of highschool and nobody didn anything for him. he ended up messing up his future because he couldnt handle it.

I dont care what anyone says theres still chance this kid will be a serious bust. In any case his ass is going to get punked for his first 3-4 years. And no he wont be coming off the bench, any team that get him wont be able to afford him riding the bench.

Yea thats why Jordan was the #1 pick

It seems like just about all the #1 picks NEVER becaome a Mega-Superstar

what are you talking about? jordan was the #3 pick in the 1984 draft after hakeem olajuwon and sam bowie.

the point is... right now he is so much better then those other kids. he's probably got a lot of untapped potential. and he's still growing too. with the right coaches (and the NBA probably has the best ones)... he's gonna be pretty damn good. of course i agree that he should go to college. but given the same opportunity, i would go to the pro's too.

hmmm 4 years of college where you risk injury and possibly hinder your NBA career, or go straight to a multimillion dollar contract? Tough choice considering the college will always be there.

Duh, I think that was his point.

However, he is slightly misguided. Jordan wasn't #1 because the teams that were 1/2 didn't need him.

Phoenix Suns - Amare Stoudemire
Houston Rockets - Yao Ming (to some extent)
Denver Nuggets - Nene Hilario (to some extent)

Lebron James is 6'8" and 240lbs. That is a very large body, which will enable him to take the wear and tear of an NBA game. The thing that makes him special is that with his size, he plays the point. He has the body of a PF, but runs the point as well as anyone has seen in a while. With his height, you make it very hard to match up with him defensively. On the other end of the floor, his height and length give him a tremendous advantage defensively. He isnt the best defender, but he doesnt have to be guarding guys who he has 5 or more inches on.

His "highlights" arent all that special. They like to show dunks and threes. He doesnt have a tremendous leaping ability like other dunkers do, but he doesnt really need it given his height. He isnt a great shooter, but he is a tremendous passer. If you are looking for "ooh" and "ahh" passes, that isnt what makes a great point. Sure he has a couple of nice passes on his resume, but its his floor leadership and team play direction that makes him a great point. He has wonderful court vision and uses it to get his teammates involved. He is a wonderful physical specimen, and a team player. Once he develops an outside shot he will be unstoppable.

As others have already mentioned, he does play ball with many NBAers, and they are all impressed with his talent. I think having played with NBA talent (not just the scrubs) and playing well by doing so, he is ready as any high schooler ever will be for the NBA>

nicely put ... I was going to reply to this thread with my 2cents but after reading your post you've covered nicely.

The problem is... even if he turns out to be a 20-25ppg player, he'll never live up to all this hype.
He's destined to fall short of expectations...with everyone considering him to be the 2nd coming of Michael Jordan.

IMO anyway.

Actually, the best players in the league tend to be #1 picks, or come straight out of high school. Lebron looks like he will do both.

High-schoolers
Kobe Bryant
Tracy McGrady
Kevin Garnett

#1 picks
Shaquille O'Neal
Tim Duncan
Allen Iverson

There you have it... 6 of the top 7 players in the NBA (IMO). The 7th? Jason Kidd -- drafted all the way down at #2.
