Lebron James = Overhyped

After watching a few of his clips, all I see him do is dunk on some 5-6 footers, make a few 3pters (nothing special), and a couple decent passes. And this is why he should be the #1 picK? HAH! This kid should go to college and spend a few years learning, just because you can dunk on some people shorter than you are, doesnt mean you should go to the NBA.

Leave the kid alone. He's got skills, the NBA wants him, and he WILL make a lot of money. I'm happy for the kid. College isn't for everybody. He can always go back if he wants to, but it's HIS decision and not mine or yours.

Yeah all the NBA coaches don't have a damn clue what to look for in a player but you do.....

the point is... right now he is so much better then those other kids. he's probably got a lot of untapped potential. and he's still growing too. with the right coaches (and the NBA probably has the best ones)... he's gonna be pretty damn good. of course i agree that he should go to college. but given the same opportunity, i would go to the pro's too.

I guess the NBA scouts, the best college/NBA announcers are all wrong as well, right?? This guy plays against Michael Jordan in the summer.......You have no idea what you are talking about. In addition, your statements only make you look like an idiot. Look at some of the top pro's in the NBA right now. Most of them didn't go to college. I'm sure they dunked on a bunch of 5'6"ers as well.....

he is pretty darn good for a kid that's still in highschool. He can shoot alright and he is awesome leaping ability, he seems to have a good understanding of the game.

For a kid that's 17, 18 he is as good as anyone ever be.

ya, and Yao was overhyped also.

Oh wait, you say he's ALREADY a legitimate center?? not possible, he was just all hype, we all knew that.

I think that guy Darko ought to go number 1. He's got all around skills plus he's been playing against grown men for the past few years. Safer bet then Lebron. He could pull a <insert name of hyped player that did not live up to his potential>.

Didn't Kobe go straight to the NBA?

and jermaine o'neal and al harrington and johnathan bender. damn pacers are cradle robbers. just kidding.

Yes Kobe made the jump, and played in front of many of the same high school coaches that have watched lebron as well, their take, as a sophomore LeBron was better than when Kobe was as a SENIOR ( when he was good enough to make that jump). LeBron is a far better passer than you give him credit for, and a fierce defender as well, a more complete player than Kobe was until very recently. Yeah his dunks are great, first high schooler I have seen pass the ball through his legs on the way up and get it down, but he is the full package. Many teams told him they would have drafted his rights had he dropped out as a sophomore and would have helped him pursue the necessary legal action needed to get him leauge approval to play. Does anyone care when it's a 14yr old tennis pro or a 15 yr old golf pro?

any #1 pick is a risk. there are no guarantees. lebron james is good enough to be considered for 1st pick.

I remember the cavs passing on Kobe, and Jermaine, and Tim thomas, had a shot at tracy mcgrady too, they didnt want to take the chance on immature players......

Yea thats why Jordan was the #1 pick

It seems like just about all the #1 picks NEVER becaome a Mega-Superstar

Lebron is definitely going to be #1, Darko is #2.

Darko is a pretty good player no doubt but lebron is a franchise player.

That may be an exaggeration. He is definetly equal to kobe as seniors, and in many ways better, but he wasn't as a soph. And yes i know what im talkin about, as do the coaches and scouts. In fact my HS coach was the one quoted in SI as saying LB is better than Kobe was at that age. But as for the rest it's right on. To the original poster... you start out by saying all you've seen is a few clips... and therefore the rest of what you say is without backing. Just wait till you see him amongst real players, and you'll see he rise to another level. I can't wait to see him in the league, i just hope he doesn't get stuck on the crappiest team around.

I have no idea what I'm talking about? I watched a tape of his so called "best plays", and all I seem him doing is having a wide open dunk or shot. I'll give him credit that he's talented, but how many NBA teams have a high school rookie as a starter? In addition, YOUR statements only make you look like a dumbass. If this kid goes off to NCAA, he'll have alot of players his size to play with, so we can truely see if he's as good as hyped to be. Look at Carmelo Anthony, he looked really good in HS but made the smart move to go with Syracuse. This guy is for real, a Freshmen player that can win games for his team, he'll be top 5 easily if he goes to the draft.

i never said he NEEDED to be amongst real players to take it to the next level. I said when he IS amongst real players, YOU will see the other aspects of his game. Of course the highlights are dunks and threes, that's what people want to see. ESPN doesn't show the solid midrange jumpers. Do you play ball? did you play with kobe for years in highschool? do you have a basis for your comments besides a highlight reel? No... and don't resort to simple name calling, it makes you look silly. Yes i agree he'd benefit from some time in college, all players that leave early would. BUT, he is the best player in the draft, so he will go. And he will need to adjust to the NBA, but he is the real thing. Give it some time and you will see.

It is generally regarded his OVRALL talent was more advanced early on, but each of their life experiences helped make them the players they are. Kobe's travel gave him a better worldly sense, a little more mature for his age, LeBron has been playing with the same 4 guys on the starting team his WHOLE life, everyday, whether school related or not, the chemistry they have help develop his passing and team skills.

Totally true. Raw talent was better, physically he was more mature than kobe. Yet, from all i read and have seen of LB on TV, and from knowing kobe back then, LB seems much more grounded and down to earth. I think that will serve him much better. I think LB's background makes him appreciate what he has, as opposed to KB's. He's not the next kobe, they're different players, both fun to watch tho.

From the little I've read of Lebron, he seems like a pretty decent kid.

His parents, on the other hand, are dimwits.
