Lebanese Christian leader killed

Nasrallah has already labled this goverment as illegitimate (link), so I guess now everybody is a fair target:
Nasrallah accused the government of Prime Minister Fuad Saniora, which is backed by the anti-Syrian parliamentary majority, of falling under the influence of the President Bush's administration. He said the government had become "illegitimate" and "unconstitutional" after the ministers resigned.

"This is the government of Feltman and not the government of Prime Minister Fuad Saniora," Nasrallah said, referring to the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Jeffrey Feltman who has repeatedly reaffirmed his country's support for the Saniora government. The remark drew applause and chants of "Death to America" from Nasrallah's audience made up of Hezbollah members charged with organizing the protests.

"We want to liberate our country from the hegemony of Ambassador Feltman and the bloodsucker Rice," he said.

Demonizing in full swing..... expect more turmoil.

Despite the previous anti-syrian backlash and that "cedar revolution" (or whatever it was called), seems like the pro-syrian/hez elements are systematically eliminating any and all opposition.

You got that right. Lebanon, one of the few beacons of hope in the M.E., has always fascinated me as the few truly progressively minded Middle Eastern Countries. It is too bad that influences that surround them, will do anything in their power to prevent it.

I wonder why we haven't done more to help democracy in that country. Obviously it would be difficult now with how Bush has managed to link democracy with Americans bombing the crap out of you, but overall it seems like it would have been a much better place to help democracy along than Iraq, where those dumbasses just seem to want to kill each other off at every possible opportunity.

Democratic forces are on the run in the entire middle east due to the American invasion of Iraq.

If find it remarkable that some of you are so quick to blame Bush, the USA, and the West in general for everything wrong in the Middle East.

Perhaps -- you know -- Hezbollah, and the oh-so-democratic Iran and Syria might be behind the nasty stuff going on there?

Who said Bush, the USA and "the West" bear all the blame for what's going on? Who said they even bear the lion's share of it? Hell, who even blamed "the USA and the West" at all?

As much as you might love to harp on it, pretty much everyone knows that Iran and Syria are not helping things in the Middle East. But we're not citizens of Iran and Syria, we're citizens of the US (for the most part) and as much as Iran and Syria share the blame for the problems in that region of the world, we have our fair share too...and we'd be stupid to ignore it just because you have some need to blame Iran and Syria instead of trying to do what we can to SOLVE the issue. No offense, but bitching about Iran and Syria is not going to change what they do, but we can change what WE do.

Ehm...... this is what you wrote:

I suppose all the demonization, and other propaganda against the West, that has been going on prior to the Iraq invasion, had nothing to do with it?

You asserted that Bush has made the link; I'll argue that the dictators of the region + the religious fanatics have created that link, in which anything Western-like is the devil's own creation.

You can advocate change as much as you want, but as long as most of the Middle East media is under the control of dictators, monarchs, or theocrats, no amount of self-change will make any difference.
