I've been thinking of starting a thread about chinese food and rice. I've noticed in the movies and tv shows people always eat right out of the box using chopsticks when they get delivery or takeout. Never in my life have I used chopsticks at home and eaten right out of the chiense food box. I use a plate, put some rice on it, then the food. I am not a barbarian.

Does anyone eat chinese food the way they do in movies?? If these people had done that, maybe they would be ok. Maybe the plate is the problem.

HAHAHA, I have often thought of this also. No one eats out of the container but in a movie they obvioulsy do it so you KNOW they are eating Chinese takeout. If they simply dumped it on a plate and ate normal it looses it's imagery. Funny how hollywood stretches reality to make a point.

I always eat it out of the box. Chopstick + Plate = FTL.

theres no way to effectively use chopsticks on a plate. its impossible.

its quite effective at everything except for say rice on a plate. that is poitnless since theres a spoon though.

course if you don't learn the right technique i guess using chopsticks can be a struggle. its like learning to ride a bike. its magically easy and effortless once you know. if ur hand strains .you do it wrong. you should be able to even pick uip heavy stuff like a drum stick if you wanted.

Certain muscles in the hand may not be developed enough to pick up heavy stuff when learning to use chopsticks. My left hand isn't even physically able to move the middle and ring fingers in opposite directions (which is necessary for proper use).

Hell no!

By that logic, she could take a wheelbarrow in, put the entire contents of the buffet on it, then just take it straight to the dumpster and still only pay less than $10.

The management was right to do this and I hope all the local buffets file for orders to not come within 50 feet of them.

F*** her.

Dear people who can't eat with chopsticks,

You guys should first learn how to wax on and wax off.
Sincerely,
the karate kid

Just because I know how to eat with chopsticks doesn't make me want to. Unless I'm eating gourmet chinese food, I don't need them because the flavors are not subtle enough to warrant eating individual pieces of food, and I don't want to look like a slob shovelling food into my mouth en masse. I eat japanese food with chopsticks usually, though.

I use fork, knife, and spoon at the buffet.

At a buffet I'm assuming the knife is needed to cut the general tso's leather strips into smaller portions...?

No, I use the knife to cut up the giant orange pork chop pieces... and stab anyone who dares to get in my way of taking the yummy snow crab legs.

From the article you didn't read: "family took food, didn't finish it and then piled on the same food again".

Why do you go back to the buffet to take the same food if you can't finish it the first time?

on a similar note, suppose you go to an all you can eat sushi restaurant. is it wrong to just eat the fish off the nigiri sushi and throw away the rice? i see people do it all the time, and cant decide if it's wrong or not.

Well, that's a little more acceptable. It's not like in the story where they pick a plate full but only eat a single piece.

If it's cold / old and they just put fresh stuff out.

A lot of the sh1tty buffets just leave the food out there until its gone hoping some worthless heat lamp keeps it fresh instead of replacing it regularly.

I think people are confused with the term "all you can eat."

All you can eat means all you can eat, not all you can take.

I gotta add my $.02 worth!
Many years ago, myself and a guy who was helping me on a project were working out-of-town.
We went to a buffet restaurant, ate until we were stuffed, we both had a small amount of food left on our plate, but niether of us could finish.
After sitting and enjoying our after-dinner cigarettes, I asked him if he was ready to leave. He replied, "wait a minute", as he promptly took his plate back to the line, loaded it as full as he possibly could, brought it back to the table and set it down, and said "NOW I'm ready to go!"
SOB!!!
I asked him what the hell was he thinking?
He replied: FVCK 'em, I paid for it!

What a jerk!
I'm sure the people in the story were doing much the same, it seems to be standard practice with Rednecks and other lower forms of life.

Why don't they order sashimi instead?

it's a sushi buffet, they dont have menus to order from and you just pick from what they put out on the buffet line

People like that burn be up. :|

The probably thought it was funny till they got kicked out.
