Are you saying if Trump doesn't win the 2020 election he will refuse to step aside?

I think it's more that Trump won't go quietly. He'll whine every chance he gets; I wouldn't put it past him to try a "poison pill" strategy where he rushes out as many executive orders as he can to make life difficult for his successor.

As much as the Republicans genuinely want one-party rule, they'd turn pale if Trump refused to step down... if just because it'd look bad.

Well, no. I think it's fair to say Obama wasn't and isn't the petulant child Trump is, but it does make sense that Trump would want to delay his trial(s) after leaving office.

I think there’s a decent chance he declares the election fraudulent if he loses. I think he will eventually step aside but his goal will be to secure some sort of immunity from prosecution in exchange.

I’m sure he is well aware that if he loses this election he stands a strong chance of going to prison.

Something along those lines, yea.
That would be comedic. Once January following the election comes around he'll leave. Now it's up to him whether he wants to do that under his own power, but Trump is a coward when confronted. While the new President is waiting outside the WH to enter Trump will be taken out the back door in a vehicle and no chance to make a speech. He can get himself arrested for trespassing of course and without an opportunity to tweet because his phone will be gone. He'll be faced by something he's never faced, forced restraint by people who are trained to remove threats to Presidents, something Trump would no longer be.

So cuffs and physically dragged out and no one sees a thing. No martyr pics, no rally, nothing. Trump will face the full power of what he tried to destroy or nation, and if some want to challenge us they too will find out that it's no joke or Fox interview.

It kinda doesn't matter.. either we have a country with a constitution or we don't and the country with a constitution says at noon on Jan 20, 2021 the powers of the Presidency shall be assigned to the winner of the electoral college.

Trump needs 270 to win.

What is his options for nullifying the election cause voter fraud?
Postponing the election?
National Emergency?
Staging a coup?
??

This is what happens when the Trumposarus Wrecks is feeling cornered, it squeals loudly and shits all over itself and those around it.

It would make more sense for Trump to try to settle or end the cases while he is in office, if he thought he was in trouble. He has a lot more pull and protection as President. A lot more ability to make a deal.

There's really no way for him, or anyone, to extend their time in office after the loss of an election.
I consider that just silly talk.

It's not happening, period.

You are more optimistic than I am. I don’t know what the result will be but I fully expect him to declare the election a fraud. What will his supporters do then?

I think our best hope is a result so overwhelming that nobody can take his claims seriously but I doubt that will happen as I fully anticipate the results to be within 5 points. Tribalism is just too strong.

Except the funny thing is no one told him to be a Russian Agent or commit bank fraud or launder money or cheat and lie on his taxes, or cheat on his wife or pay the pornstar or hookers off.

All of his troubles are self inflicted!

He's basically the male Hillary.. it's everyone's fault but her (his) own!

Keep in mind that "sense" and "Trump" don't really belong in the same sentence. If he doesn't feel he should be punished for something (which is virtually all of the time), he stays firm -- hell, he wouldn't even issue his faux apology for that Billy Bush recording until he was practically forced to do it. I would not be surprised if Trump does nothing to put an end to cases because he genuinely thinks he either won't be charged or will emerge triumphant.

Trump will keep agitating until the day he dies. He may declare the election a fraud and he'll still get booted. If his followers turn violent then they will be met with the same. What will be will be, but part of that is he's out and if he decides to engage in insurrection we have laws to deal with that. Most of his followers have not known war and those who have usually aren't eager. The fringe who live either in glory days or fantasies will be removed by whatever means required.

But

What I expect is that Trump will be hauled out physically, charged with various crimes and imprisoned incommunicado. In NY we have facilities to provide sufficient facilities to restrain Trump and his protestors can march around the prison.

But he will go and there will be a transition of power on schedule.
