every time i leave it for a few weeks, the battery dies (only thing plugged in was an ipod charger/ipod) would disconnecting the battery prevent this?

its a valet garage, so it would be a hassle if my car doesn't start...

five weeks is a fairly short time for the battery to die. you've either got some kind of abnormal draw or a weak battery.

but yes, disconnecting the negative terminal would prevent that (if the battery's not defective). it will also clear any adaptive values from your ECM and/or TCM, though, as well as stuff like radio presets. on a select few cars, it could cause a bigger issue. new beetles come to mind- i can't remember the specifics, but i've seen them require a trip to the dealer after a battery disconnect. that's really rare, though.

Check to see if your car has an IOD fuse. Ignition Off Draw. It's on a lot of modern cars. You pull it for storage. It's used by the dealer for cars that sit on the lot.

My Jeep has one and it will remind you to reinstall it if you forget, with a message on the dash display.

I'd pull it esp if its a newer ride
These modern computers and electronics draw a lot doing nothing

forgot to mention: its a 2007 civic si sedan.

sounds like i should either pull that fuse if it exists or disconnect the battery.

thanks,
Vivan
