Although its 14 hours of flight time one way, 🙁 we are looking forward to the trip. Going to Beijing and Shanghai for 2 weeks. So any good tips out there? We have a good plan and schedule just wondering if any one has a MUST we should see or do? I post some pics a little later! Thanks!

I miss Beijing... 5 star hotels for 180-200 a night

You taking the sleeper cab between the two cities? That can be an adventure in itself 🙂 (if you're going with an SO)

Have you ever been before? I am in Hong Kong right now, it's my first time out of the U.S. and although I'm here for work I am having a great time. The flight is quite long, but bearable if you bring enough stuff to do.

for starters:

be very picky with the pottery souvenirs at great wall tourist traps.

stop by hooters shanghai.

don't run over any of the gazillion people on bicycles.

they have hooters in china? how does that work, considering the average build of asian women?

We are flying dron Chicago to Shanghai, I think we are also flying from Shanghai to Beijing. This is our first time to China. One of my wife patients is a travel agent, he set us up with a couple tours with people he knows over there. I believe the flight is American Airlines. We bought a portable DVD player with an external battery(16 hours of battery life) and we also got an extra battery for our laptop. I think we'll be good on most things other than the seats being small, I fat but wide framed and 6'2" so plane seats kill me. Any way cant wait to use my Canon 20D and new lense!!

because they hire the women who are NOT average.

shanghai has some really good looking ladies.

I'm spending 2 1/2 months in Shenzhen working for my uncle. Leave in 14 days. Reaaaaally nervous about it. I've been to Taiwan 6-7 times, but never to China.

He owns a toy manufacturing factory somewhere in the industrial section. I'm basically shadowing him and my cousin, who helps him with the daily operations. I'm going into accounting, and this is probably the last year I can do something like this before going into the working field. Plus I'm interested in international business, and what better place to be considering China's growth?

Hopefully American companies view this trip as a valuable experience as opposed to a traditional accounting externship.

Taiwan (Taipei/Taoyuan) is my home base too 🙂 (3 months a year, since like what, age 12?)

China, dunno if I could spend longer than a month. The Beijing accents alone irritate me to no extent.

IMHO, the trip would probably be more beneficial to you if you were seeking a job overseas. Americas (unless they are some international conglomerate, with frequent ambassadorial/contact with china), probably won't hold it in such high esteem. That being said, I'm also working a few months overseas with a pharmaceutical company, but I hope to eventually spend a few years living/working/breathing Taipei.
