What a shitty thing for the owner to do. Glad to see that they are getting blasted on FB and Yelp. I tip by service, not by mandate. McCoy didn't even say a word until today after the story blew up.

There are situations where the waiter did a bad job and got what they deserved, and there are also situations where the customer is simply a cheap douche. Regardless, posting that shit online is just dumb.

regardless, a tip is not required, and ultimately, the customer can decide not to tip if they do not feel like it, regardless of their reasoning.

Exactly, I believe wait staff should get tips, I believe in and support that model of business, BUT if somebody does not leave tip, I don't support shaming them or calling them out in anyway.

Yup, that's EXACTLY what tips were made for. To Insure Prompt Service. Prompt also means polite, respectful, and doing a good job. If you don't come to my table, ask how the meal was, be attentive to my needs, then you get squat.

The owner of the chinese restaurant I delivered for as a teen would blacklist bad tippers and the only way they could get their service restored was to come to the restaurant and properly tip his driver.

He'd also post their name on a list in public view, one part was bad checks and one was bad tippers.

social media has separated people from society, and created a highly unsociable class.

No longer do we know how to actually interact with people personally, as our so-called interactions today have been parsed to a "what I did" response to "what you did" claim.

In reality, 15% is considered proper to just have someone serve you in any capacity.

Now if they insulted you or totally neglected your table (assuming the reason was not because you picked a place that requires a server to cover 20+ tables) than tips can be adjusted accordingly.

Also tips are more or less considered mandatory in the US unless posted otherwise. It's the same as if the owner decided not to pay a worker because they didn't do a good job.

The answer is leave a tip, speak to the manager about it and /or elect not to return to the establishment.

Sadly, many that do this; ALWAYS have to do it because they are not happy with service anywhere.

Vick didnt tip one time when I brought his car from the garage when I used to work valet in the city. It was even brought up early too. Oh well, if the waiter was unprofessional then I don't tip either.

That's exactly the right analogy. Tipping is not really optional when it's part of the bill.

People have gotten themselves to believe it is and that even 15% is reserved for service that was above and beyond instead of just basic.

Also these same people go to the cheap cattle car establishments with 1 hour waits and then expect service in 5 mins and cry because they don't have a dedicated waiter.

In most fancier restaurants I've been to, the tip is included and stated so on the receipt. But not every place has this feature in place. Overseas it's always included, at least in Europe.
