$1 per drink is fine, bottle service is a bit different if they are serving you other things in the VIP area like appetizers and the like.

I tip $1 a time (many just let them keep the change) and I never wait for my drinks no matter how packed the place is.

Typically bottle service is an automatic 20%. I will not tip extra on top of that. Most places are a 500 minimum and all the girl does is bring out the bottle to our table and pour the first few rounds.

I'll do $1 for beers $2 for mix but if I'm planning to stay there for a long time I tip $10-20 off the bat to get hooked up.

Some really high end steakhouses have $20+ burgers, but you are sitting with couples spending $200+ without alcohol.

Gastropubs would fall under the same category (similar but different) - $10-15 burgers with $6-8 craft beers.

A small tip actually makes a statement. Not putting one at all makes them think you just forgot or don't to at all.

regardless, a tip is not required, and ultimately, the customer can decide not to tip if they do not feel like it, regardless of their reasoning.

It takes an absolute shitload for me to tip something as low as 20 cents. For me it's more along the lines of 10% instead of my usual 18-22%

I'll give McCoy the benefit of the doubt and say he isn't a cheap ass. Any restraunt stupid enough to do something like this is stupid enough to employ people stupid enough to dick over good paying customers like myself that tip well.

There are your normal customers. They tip 8-15% because that's what they normally do. They see the tip line and just enter default amounts no matter what. Then there are people like myself that average ~18% minimum. But if you fuck up, you wrote yourself a $0.00 check. I hold no sympathy if you manage that, because holy crap that takes a lot.


EDIT: What I am starting to hate is seeing tip lines for fast food joints (Chipotle, Burrito places, walk-in restaurants, etc...). If someone isn't waiting on me hand and foot, fuck you. If I'm standing in a line grabbing my food, grabbing my drink, you did me no service. You did your job, I did mine. Where is the extra payment in that?

In most fancier restaurants I've been to, the tip is included and stated so on the receipt. But not every place has this feature in place. Overseas it's always included, at least in Europe.

Are you fucking retarded? In most places in Europe you DON'T tip. They are fine if you do toss a euro on the table, fine if you don't. The concept of tipping is retarded to boot. It's a capitalistic concept of tossing the the burden of payment to waiters onto the consumer instead of the actual restaurant. Ingenious since everyone seems fall for it and defend it to the T.

It seems a bit ridiculous to try to calculate percentages and give the guy a bunch of very specific change. Say I order poutine or something and it comes up to 12.48 at the door I'll give 15 bucks and say keep the change. If it's more like 14.13 then I might add a toonie and loonie in there and say keep the change. Sure they might get more or less tip at different intervals but I highly doubt they sit there and try to figure out the exact amount based on price, they're just happy to have untaxed money they can keep to themselves and are grateful for it. People here are different though, it seems in the states it's expected.

At restaurants I tend to tip more than delivery though and probably more like 10-15 bucks depending on amount of people.

Tipping is simple. It's based on 15%, you are Canadian so I am sure everything is harder for you...but here is an easy lesson, eh?

15% is another half of that, so $1.50
20% is just double, so $2.

Well I lived in Rome and there was no tipping. Hell I was a regular at a restaurant I tried tipping a few times (Just because they gave us free food and discounts all the time) and the owner gave me some money before I went back to the US.
