least memory intensive windows xp theme program?

I wanted to jazz up my desktop but want a program that I can shut off easily if I need to run anything memory intensive. What's the best program for this? I have 512 mb RAM.

You can 'jazz up' your desktop, or you can conserve resources. One or the other. Alphamapped images take up lots of RAM for Windows, if not using DirectX to do the job.

Now, if you want to conserve resources, there's BBLean and xoblite. Otherwise, just keep track of your RAM.

You don't have to run an extra app to change your theme, you just need to patch your uxtheme.dll, then grab some themes from the web. They generally use more memory than the standard theme, but not much.
