Least expensive way? A/V to digital recording

I'm looking for the least expensive way to record from a vehicle mounted camera that outputs a standard analog A/V signal, well actually only one audio stream, not R/L stereo. My first thought was miniDV cam with A/V in, but the record time is limited, and I'd prefer not to deal with miniDV tape. So my next thought was a cheap laptop, but need a good way to get the vid stream into the laptop, most vid cards don't have an A/V input, don't know if any do for that matter. Then there's the audio, so I'd need that as well, and I'm sure some pain in the *** software to tie it all toegether. I figure the laptop could be real low end just to record the stream but not sure.

Any ideas? recommendations?
