i too want to know🙂

ofoto def good, but more costly. i even sent some ~1mega pix anime pics and stuff and they came out very well🙂 haha

since when is 26cents a good price for photo prints...
clubphoto.com has a 20%off coupone which makes their price about 20 cents. Costco B&M only charges 19cents and their quality is very good...

Cheapest and best quality
I've never used Wal-Mart's processing, but I've used Costo's B&M photo processing. $.19 per 4" x 6" print. I was happy with the quality of the printed material, but felt that they over-cropped my picture a little bit. I thought this was kind of weird because I had the proportions set for a 4 x 6 print.

I've also used a local "mom & pop" photo processing shop before that provided me with 20 prints in 15 minutes. However, their price was about $.55 each. But, they didn't do any cropping to my pictures and the quality was great. I'd use them again if I didn't have 30 minutes to waste (driving to Costco, standing in line, loading the pictures, driving home, etc.)

i'm clueless. how do 4:3 resolution digital pics get printed on 4x6? stretch or crop? or should i crop em myself? and how?

Use Photoshop - or some other photo editing program to crop your photos.

Walmart is upgrading many of it's photolabs to allow for digital processing. In the store I work at, they only option right now is using the picture machine.

How many photos are you thinking about getting printed. dotphoto has some good bulk rates, but I believe if you stick with walmart, you can return the bad ones you don't want. Although with digital, unless its a printing problem, then the blame would be on the picture taker.

I get 8x10's done at walmart, just because it's so much faster then any online place. I like black and white photography, and thats an easy way to kill your ink fast in the trusty Photosmart, so its easiest for me to just drop off the memory card with one of their photo techs and pick up my prints in half an hour. At $2.50 each, its hard to beat the price.

I've used costco's a few times now. Only the new(er) locations have the processing, and the closest one to me is 20min drive (Each way). Then they do NOT do the 1hr processing for digital, even though it says they do. But, at that price it is hard to beat, so, I save up and do a bunch at a time.

As mentioned above, their 4:3 -> 4:6 cropping is not the best. I've even cropped some myself using paintshop pro and the cropping tool, yet they still get them a bit off. So, best to have about a 5% margin of error (leave a bit extra around the borders) or you'll have to deal with getting them reprinted. I'd be happier if they'd just leave a blank border and get the whole picture in--uncropped. But, then you'd get a bunch of amateurs complaining about that. Should be an option you can check off on the kiosk!

That, or, I wish my camera had a 4x6 or 5x7 compatible ratio now. It's a P.I.T.A. to resize them each time.

One cool thing I did (I think) was using paintshop to crop a photo and then on the blank border I added a 'Happy Holidays' comment. Then saved the pic and got them printed at costcos. Looks very professional (the printing at least, not the photo!).

I'm pretty sure @ .19/4x6 pic it's very competitive to printing them on inkjet (maybe even cheaper?) and the quality is definitely better than my current printer. Not sure about the 4800x1200 models.

You can't print photos on an inkjet printer for less than $.19 each. The costs will be much higher. Plus, the photos will not last nearly as long as when you have them printed professionally.

dotPhoto does matte finish also, I'm not sure if walmart does that also. I think we have always gotten glossy from walmart.

If you want good quality print then I would suggest going to Drycreek and on your left it said view database. Click on that to download the profile and read on how to apply the profile. The quality is just awesome after I apply the profile and have it print at my local Walmart. I got this tip from DPREVIEW forums...
