Least biased news sources?

I tend to see a big story and just do searches for some different perspective. I take AP with a grain of salt unless it is a reporter I'm aware of and know they are not the usual trash. CNN is trash (I worked there, I know these things!), as are most of the big names.

I'm kind of looking for some news sources where I can't say "Neocon" or "Libtard" in the first paragraph of reading. So, where do you get your news?

Which Pew study are you referring to? Are we talking about a poll of viewer perceptions of Fox versus other networks, or an actual comparative study of the content of various networks?

I'm thinking you aren't referring to this particular Pew study:

I gave up on trying to find the news with the least bias and just took it upon myself to pick out the facts from the spin. I like local news and talk radio shows more than anything for news, avoid 24 hour news networks at all costs, but for internet news I visit fox, npr, politico, wsj.

Fox News gives you both sides' talking heads, but most of its hosts are center right to far right. CNN really isn't that bad, some hard lefties and a lefty bias as to which stories are covered but not too biased in actual coverage. Christian Science Monitor is remarkably good. CNS News is pretty good too. And ABC Radio News is remarkably fair and balanced for a straight news organization. I prefer to sample a variety of news sources with well-known biases. (Sort of like Rush Limbaugh; I know he won't lie to me, but I also know he'll bend over backwards and do flips to spin it his way. So if I hear an interesting story on Rush I can check out left-leaning sites NPR or BBC America or Reuters for their spin with the understanding that the actual truth is probably in the middle.)

If you go to Fox news and NPR you get a decent view from both sides. Least biased does not mean unbiased, there is no such thing as unbiased.

(My least bias sources in no particular order)

The News Hour with Jim Lehrer.
NPR.
C-Span TV/Radio.
Washington Post.
New York Times.
Wall Street Journal.

That's all the news sources anyone needs...Pretty much most(if not all) of the remaining others are crap.

Those are all good! I do make my own mind up, but sometimes trying to decyper the difference between "Insurgents killed by American troops in gunbattle" and "Innocent Iraqis slaughtered by US troops" with the clip they find the most suiting to their needs gets old.

Im not much on TV, but most of those have good sites to go with it. Last time I looked at C-SPAN the website looked like a crappy BBS with zero formatting. Much better now!

Much thanks guys. I can only laugh so many times a day @ Fark.

Yea CNN has tried to move center while MSNBC has moved far left while fox is still hard right. Funny thing is the more CNN trys to be center the more their ratings go down. The more left MSNBC moves and more right Fox goes their ratings go higher.

So seems most people see those sources as something want to back up their beliefs not get "news".

I don;t watch any and read as much as I can. The BS/Spin seems pretty obvious in most today. But ratings seem to say thats what people want.

There doesn't seem to be such a thing as an unbiased news source anymore. That's why I read (NOT watch) Fox News and NPR, since their conservative and liberal biases seem to cancel each other out in my mind.

Biased in what way?

If you're looking for consumable, lowest-common denominator news - look for CNN, BBC, MSNBC, Fox, etc...

Looking for academic and thorough news sources - New Republic, Foreign Policy, Commentary, The Nation, World Policy Journalist, Foreign policy.

For general media, I personally like the Telegraph, Jerusalem Post, and Wall Street journal.

When it comes to international news, it's hard to find objective reporting. I like to read about Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Kashmir - conflicts that are rarely talked about. Wall Street Journal is an all-around decent paper.

BBC is basically the Fox News of Britain. So many scandals and violations of basic journalism ethics. People call it "Al-beebs" there.
