I just noticed that my monthly lease payment was raised $2.00. I recently moved from Orange County to LA...could that be the reason?

Taxes?

When my gf moved from Ohio to Utah, her lease went down $4 due to less taxes.

You guys leasing both leasing from VW? :p

Nah, I am paying Toyota Financial. I did get a mailing that said my contract was sold to another company, but nothing would change on my end.

I had this happen before. I originally had an Audi financial contract that was switched to Volkswagen Financial.

I just wish they'd stay put. Stupid things like this make me nervous. :\

wth I thought taxes were paid at time of purchase on the vehicle.

Depends on the state. I've paid taxes three different ways on a lease.

In Iowa you pay taxes up front on the value of the lease payments.

In Nebraska you pay sales tax monthly on the value of the payments.

In IL they bend you over a barrel, give you a sand & lemon juice enema, and then proceed to violate you by making you pay sales tax up front on the FULL MSRP of the vehicle. And then to add insult to injury if you want to buy the vehicle at the end of the lease they have the fucking stones to charge you sales tax AGAIN on the buyout price. Note to anyone DON'T LEASE IN ILLINOIS.

LOL wut that is pure rape, there is no way around defining it as that. What a scam. I like in NY it's only on the price of the lease amount (so 1/3rd or 1/2 of car or whatever). Course taxes here are also 8%+ I bet they are lower in IL.

Glad I could be of use :)

And to further rag on the tax insanity of Illinois...if you do have the misfortune of moving to this indebted hellhole of politicial shenanigans with a lease they welcome you with open arms.

Why do you ask?

Because if you are moving from a state that has a logical, reasonable, and polite way of taxing a lease on say...oh what you are actually paying for the car the state of IL says "oh no no no! NO PLATES FOR YOU!" Do not pass go. Do not collect registration until you pay taxes on full MSRP ah ah ah!

Yeh. If you plan to move...don't ever ever ever lease a car. I originally leased in Iowa. Paid $600 in taxes on what I owed for the car. Moved to Nebraska (wife matched to residency) and Nebraska didn't care that I paid taxes already. They wanted sales tax added to lease payments. Payments went up like $15 a month thanks to state sales tax. Then my wife got a job in IL and when we moved here the IL DOT wouldn't give us a license plate until we paid another $410 to "make up" the sales tax that we owed them for inconvenience of stepping across their border.

Fuckers.

Cliffs notes: Know your state tax codes before leasing.

Edit more Cliffs notes: IL sucks balls for leasing cars.
