Learning to swim

I was afraid of the water when I was a little kid and so I never learned to swim.

I finally got around to checking out beginner lessons...

Considering I've never taken a swimming lesson in my life, do you guys have anything to share regarding the experience? What can I expect?

to be laughed at?

on a serious note, if you signed up for swimming lessons at the YMCA they will take it VERY slow, but considering your an adult you can probably be taught a whole lot faster then a whiny kid
<works as a lifegaurd at a YMCA

Just jump in the deep end. That's what I saw them do to babies and they survided. Perhaps a little mental afterward, though.

yeah i have no vertical buoyancy (sp?) and i can't tread water. i have the same problem. my friends tell me it's a mental thing and technique, but i never caught on.

Just think that you can swim
When I was around 4 years old, I almost drowned in the deep end if someone had not saved me
Even after that "tramatic incident," around 1 day later, I kept swimming

Just try treading water w/o ground under you (start at the shallow end by putting ur legs high)

A lot of kids in other countries are just taught by throwing them in the deep end... but probably doesn't work if you're doing it yourself. 😀

a girl died in 1933 by a homicidal murderer. He buried her in the ground while she was still alive. The murderer chanted,"toma sota balchu" as he buried her. Now that you have read the chant, you will meet this little girl. In the middle of the night she will be on your ceiling. She will suffocate you like she was suffocated. If you post this, she will not bother you. Your kindness will be rewarded

Lies I read this a week ago and I'm still here.

I grew up in Auckland, New Zealand - they teach kids to swim, sail a small boat, and do CPR, in school. When you're about 10 or 12. I used to think everyone could swim.
