Could you guys direct me to sites/forums which you frequent?

Another question I have is a very n00bish one. Which electric guitar should I buy & what accessories should I get along with it. It would be great if you could give me multiple options as I am currently in India and might not have access to all the major guitar models.

New Question
Are there any freeware/paid applications which you use for tuning/effects etc? Please recommend some to me. :)

Also...
UltimateGuitar The forums are great there.
Guitar World Another place where you can ask questions.
Webforums from your favorite bands are also a good place to ask any questions you have as well.
Also, it would be beneficial once you learn a bit more to subscribe to maybe GuitarOne or Guitar World. I built up a lot of finger stringth and coordination with the lessons provided in those mags. Plus, it's good reading.

Have someone who plays pick one out for you. As a beginner you don't know what to look for, and it's hard to describe what kind of "feel" to "look" for. Hell... go to a music store and find someone who's also looking at guitars, ask them if they'll help you pick out a beginner guitar for 20 bucks. That's how I got my first one.

*EDIT* As far as accessories... an electric tuner is helpful. Don't need a big expensive one, the cheapest little thing you can find will work fine.

Oh, and I LOVE these picks (Nylon Standard). I use the 1.0mm (black) ones. Just make sure you either get a lot of them, or keep them hidden. It seems even people who don't play the guitar like to swipe them.

I've never really liked the nylon picks. I love Dunlop's Gator Grip picks, though.

They seem to last forever. I don't play often, but I bought a dozen picks about 2 years ago and have only used one and you can barely tell it's been used.

I started using those picks with the star cutout in the middle (for the life of me I can't remember the name now). Anyway, because if the cutout,I don't drop my pick anymore- can't go back to anything else now :)

Im a beginner as well, i have a seagull s6+spruce for acoustic and just got a fender strat (not squier :p) on the cheap. Im borrowing a cheap amp from a friend and its nice to switch back and forth. The learning process is fun IMO.

i suggest learning acousting first as it builds more skill and is more rewarding for your hard work (IMHO)
however, go with what fite the style of music you want to play

I also am just now learning the guitar. My bro got a new acoustic to learn on so i took his old fender strat from when he was a kid to fool around on.

Everyone tells me..oh its easy..you can teach yourself..no problem....

It seems a lot harder to me. I have a book but trying to move from cord to cord seems very hard. I also have a very hard time making the chords sound right. My fingers keep on touching the other ones and making it so they are dead(no I am not fat). I dont know if I should move my thumb up or down more to play better. All and all ist been frustrating.

I am going to stick with it though..I just dont know what to do next..or where to REALLY start.
