Learning Linux: What should I do first with it?

MadRat

Lifer
I'm a newbie looking to run Madrake Linux (8.0) for the first time. I have a small number of machines here to work with ranging from a pentium all the way up to a Duron. I'm thinking the support for the Dell workstation I have would be pretty simple so perhaps I'll use it on that machine. (It also sports a removeable tray to swap harddrives.)

But I need some tips what to do for the install, what to get to know, why to know it, etc etc etc. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

step 1: install.

step 2: try to get it to run like windows.

step 3: uninstall.

I have run through this cycle many times. I never get the same out of my hardware. I put down money for good sound card... dvd rom, good vid card.... unfourtunately i can't really take advantage of these things.

Maybe in a couple years... but where do you think windows is gonna be then?

My point of view:

step 1: install.

step 2: try to get it to run like how you want it to be.

step 3: get familiarized with it and poke around!
