Learning a 2nd language

My company is in the process of expanding our language diversity. We have 3 people that speak spanish and English. Mind you, my co-workers have been around both languages all their life.

I'm considering learning German(we have offices opening in Germany soon).
Ideally, assuming I pick up the language as quickly as the average person in their 20s, how many years am I looking at of study before I'm actually useful as a German speaking person? Is it even worth the effort(considering possible career changes in a few years, which have have no use later on)

Ach Man, german grammar is tough and so is the vocabulary (not even thinking about pronunciation).

I'ld say that it will take a while !

A while can mean many things. In my company it means a few hours to just after the 2nd comming of Jesus Christ.

Too bad I can learn a 2nd language matrix style. Just down load it into my brain.
If I could do that I'd speak German, Trukish, Japanese, Thai and Chinese. And watch my paycheck go up

If your company deals internationally, it can be very lucrative if you can help them with business in a non-English speaking company.

i took two years of german in high shcool....easssyyy ass language for english speakers...though grammar can get tough if you go further than two years

rosetta stone has some really great software

Technical support for a web hosting company. I know the spanish reps are getting more. It only makes sence. They have a skill the company needs and no one else in the company has. It's hard enough to find English only reps let alone thoes that speak spanish.

2nd on checking out Rosetta Stone software. It makes it pretty easy to pick up quickly.
