Learner's Permit/Driving License

I have just moved to US as a student in CT... just turned 15... desperately need a driver's license so that I can getto school without burdening host family. Pursuant to CT state law, I have to wait until I am 16.5 before I can get a license. I believe South Dakota, Vermont and New Hamshire have the lowest age threshold. Any ideas how I can take advantage of the lower age requirement in these other states (without actually being a resident?)!!

Thanks!

Nope. Most states have a 15 y/o learners permit but you cannot drive alone so that doesn't help you.

Well is there a way of getting a learners permit from states that have a 15 year limit without being a resident of that state? ( would try finding a way of driving with someone else later )

thanks

probably not.

in most (all?) states, proof of residence is required.

Nope. You have to be a resident of that state for them to give you a learner's permit.
