If you meet this criteria:
1. Northerner
2. Eating in a southern restaurant
3. In a small town
4. Where the entire place turns and looks at you when you are seated since it might be the first time in a year they have seen someone new in the joint

And:
1. The server asks "What will you have, hon?"
2. And you say "It's my first visit, what do you have?"
3. And the server says "Well, just about everyone gets the buffet", does not offer you a menu and walks away

Then just get the buffet. They've already told you they're not real thrilled you are there.

Other clues:
"Do you want iced tea?" (Not "what would you like to drink?")
Empty buffet plates not cleared from your table
Dinner and iced tea was $16. I have a feeling everyone else was paying like $10. But no menu, no way to quibble.

It was pretty alien.

J/K a bit you didn't even specify where.

I'm farther south than some, I wouldn't venture places in a few states above me.

YMMV no matter where you're at.

lol.

I have family in Kentucky and Tennessee. 90% of the people are nice as can be.

What you described though is not anything because you are from the north. it sounds like small town Bs. they always have shitty waitresses. ones that have been doing it a lifetime and don'[t put up with shit.

What does that have to do with Obama in general or the whole thread from the original post.

You're a n00b troll.

Aww, the insufferable, babbling village idiot is unhappy with what I post. :|

You of all people on this board are in NO position to critique what others post, and you know this.

There's an insufferable, racist idiot thread crapper in this thread, and it's not MongGrel.

You're in Florida. That isn't the south--it's Florida.

You didn't ask for a menu. You asked for a suggestion.

You're in Florida. That isn't the south--it's Florida.

And I was born in Staton Island NY, and raised in Indiana, lived in CA, ad HI, and been a lot of places in between, have relatives in GA, been through the whole area in between more times than I can count, and most of the Carribean.

What's your point ?

There are many places in FL very Rednecky.

Come down here and eat someday, and they won't hassle you.

I know a few places in Clearwater might even act that way to someone walking in believe it or not.

And back on topic, Kranky if you walked into ANY one horse town ANYWHERE, and decided to eat at what was probably the only restaurant there, then of course they are going to look to see who it is when someone walks in. For all you knew, they were expecting someone way more important to walk in, like the pony express or something.

I'm just saying. Florida is like an Island dangling off the sphincter formed by Georgia and eastern Louisiana. Especially since it has now long been populated by a mix of old retired transplants from New Jersey and Cuban immigrants, it really isn't anything like "the south." I have family there, too.

You apparently don't know much about it is all I can say.

Been living here 25 years now and coming down since 1969.

OP must be in a little place of BFE. I grew up in the South and most of the mid-size or larger places are ok.
