Learn how to maintain landscaping?

I bought a house last summer and it's got a normal sized yard, but a lot of nice landscaping. I have no idea how to maintain this stuff, and would like to learn as it needs some work.

How would I go about learning how to take care of it? The plants need trimming, the flower beds have weeds, there are dead portions of the plants to remove, the lawn is getting weeds, etc.

Thanks, I just am out of my arena on this. All of my neighbors got their lawns into tip top shape this weekend and I feel that mine is lacking.

Yeah... get someone else to do it, or just tear it all out and go for the "eco-friendly desert landscaping" approach 🙂

I have some one do it everyspring, rake the yard, trim the bushes & trees, mulch etc. Then I just have to mow the lawn the rest of the season.

It really depends on what you want to do. If you have time and interest, then DIY. If you have cash and want results, pay a service to do it. If you have cash and interest, then you can get some pretty nice automatic tools (like the robo-mower) to maintain it for you. Bottom line, it can become a hobby and suck up your time just like anything else if you let it.
