LeapFrog's been very busy of late -- they recently added Tag Junior to their line of edutainment products for the wee ones --and now there's this. The Text and Learn children's "PDA" hasn't been officially announced yet, but details are slipping out from the U.K. Toy Fair, so here's what we know about the must-have device of the year: boasting a full QWERTY keyboard, the Text and Learn has a calendar (for learning dates), phonics functions (for learning... phonics) on the keyboard, and games to teach spelling and basic computer skills, as well. There's also some "texting" -- the child can interact with their onscreen buddy / guide, Scout. The Text and Learn is set to launch in August for about $30. Man -- armed with this and our totally sick laptop, we're going to be the talk of the town.

The Text and Learn children's "PDA" hasn't been officially announced yet.

Where were devices like this when I was growing up? :(

You didn't have a Speak'n'Spell? Those were pretty high-tech.

heh heh

I never had any child learning toys. I just learned naturally.

What I played with as a kid?
Tonka trucks, remote control cars, and super nintendo - mortal kombat II, super mario, and mario kart. :D

I think my parents never cared about learning toys because I didn't have any problems learning. Was a great speller, and was awesome with flash cards.

About the only learning toy I had was one of those large circular-shaped things with various... things... on it, and when you pulled the lever the dial spun around, landed on something, and made some kind of noise.

See'n'Say :p

I didn't actually have a Speak'n'Spell either, I just played with one at my friend's house.

I did have a Yak Bak 2 though. Where you could record anything and warp the voice for playback. Oh those were the shit.
