Wow, that is really lame... My opinion of ATI is going down quite rapidly... Not that it matters much to them, I am only a single user out of millions. But I certainly will not advise their products if they really resport to this advertising compaign.

Yep as each day passes, I'm becoming less and less fond of them. People have crucified nVidia for the stuff they did during the nV30 days but when ATi pulls similar tactics, it gets brushed aside. I wonder why that is so? I'm gonna make the first two slides as part of my sig.

This marketing reminds me of Steve Jobs with Apple, someone who I despite for leading away innocent people to believe stupid, untrue things about the Apple platform. Yet, not many people call him on it. He isn't fair, picks benchmarks that no user can really give a crap about and then makes ridiculous claims about his product. ATI appears to be doing the same thing... I mean, some of these attacks are so ridiculous, it is almost childish. But, if that is what it takes to help minimize their loss... I just doubt this will help them at all. I think most people will see right through this, hopefully.

Quote from article....

I got these slides in my inbox on friday, the sender did not even mention if they were made by a manufacturer or if they are user-made.
When asked, he only revealed that the presentation is not user made, but he can't reveal his source..

So please take the information presented with a grain of salt. As I see it, this presentation could come from:
ATI
NVIDIA
User side

Ask yourself who has something to gain from making it.

UPDATE: Today I received word that this presentation is indeed from ATI.

Wow, this isn't a joke then... That is really sad.

ATI's image quality is better than Nvidia's, but It's certainly not as fast as they say.

And wtf are they talking about with their prices - release prices, who cares about that?!

WQHL lmao

ATIs 3.1-3.4 passed WHQL while it hardlocked the original HL + mods. WHQL is a marketing gimmick.

Well, everything from the nvidia slides turned out to be accurate as time passed.

We will have to give ATI a chance now won't we.

I admit that this is pretty lame of ATi to resort to this sort of marketing, but c'mon. Are we to expect any less? This has been going on since the caveman days when one guy selling his rocks claimed that his would kill a dinosaur much better than the guy's across the river due to his superior rock picking skills.

...seriously, put yourself in their shoes. They are desperately trying to sell their products (that is not very much different than their competitors). In attempt at differentiation, they have to point out all the little stupid things that they might have a slight edge on over the competition. Do you honestly think that they would be 100% honest and say that their products are "pretty much the same crap that our competitors sell" or "our products suck, so buy theirs"?

Nvidia did it before though. They are both being retards - it's called marketing. They can do it, no one can help.

Nvidia should release a FUD slideshow with the first slide saying

"What do you do when your competition has a card people can actually buy and you do not?"

:D

Many of those slides, if given 100 years will not reflect the truth... Read them closely, it is trick marketing. Like for instance, who really cares about the 6XXX series in the high end? So what does it matter if their SM3.0 isn't WHQL verified? It doesn't, not to mention WHQL is a joke and everyone knows it.

This is just an example of poor marketing, designed to trick the consumer and take the focus off of what really matters. We refer to this as "Blowing" smoke when in large debates. Blowing smoke over the real issues...

WHQL is important to OEMs because the use of WHQL'd hardware means discounted Windows license cost. So if these slides are marketed toward their OEMs then it means something. It's also very good at testing corner cases and checking for precision issues.

I find it supremely ironic that ATi is trying to market themselves by getting into a driver-compatibility pissing contest with Nvidia.

Gun pointed squarely at foot.

Good point, however, I doubt any OEM would bring their sales team in to decide whether or not to use ATI or nVidia. I am sure any OEM that would be purchasing these items in large quanities would have highly qualified personal to see through these slides, thus making them rather inneffective and cause a massive backlash to ATI. Regardless of the intentions, they are blowing smoke.

Sure. Lets see...

ATi beats nVidia in every price range? No. Only at the Ultra high-end. (BTW look how they didn't put any proof behind that statment. Only "and they know it". They only showed how the 7800GTX get's beaten by the x1800XT.)

Ati is cheaper than nVidia? "confusing street prices with MSRP?" LOL. Look at the 6600GT's price on that list. It wasn't even that high even when it was released. Now it's 150?(I think).

What about the huge power consumption at idle(and at load...). What about the fact that there are no x1800XTs on the market today?

Oh. Where are the crossfire cards? Well I heard that some of them are availible but only at 100$+ higher than MSRP (talk about the difference between street price and MSRP. I'm confused!) Maybe ATi knows that the x1800XT will be way above MSRP and that's why they added the MSRP vs. Street price slide.

Yes, some of those slides are true. The x1800XT is better than the 7800GTX. Yes it's the only one that has the AA+HDR ability. The x1800XT is also better at SM3 and stuff. and I would get an X1800XT and not a 7800GTX if I could get one of them. but still, they are making conclusions on the whole x1000 series on x1800XT quotes.

Anyway, those slides are a joke.
