The leak contains a list of more than 50,000 phone numbers that, it is believed, have been identified as those of people of interest by clients of NSO since 2016.

The disclosures begin on Sunday, with the revelation that the numbers of more than 180 journalists are listed in the data, including reporters, editors and executives at the Financial Times, CNN, the New York Times, France 24, the Economist, Associated Press and Reuters.

So, I’ve only paid attention to this story in passing, but my understanding is that an Israeli security firm essentially privatized a tool favored by Mossad and basically sold it to any paying customer with zero regard for the consequences? Russia—step right up!! Saudis—your Wahhabis want us wiped from the map but you’re cool too!! Politicians and businessmen in the pocket of Mexican Cartels? Authoritarian governments everywhere? (Oprah-mode) YOU get a Pegasus and YOU get a Pegasus!!!

There are plenty of people who feel threatened by government possessing the tools for mass surveillance—and for dammed good reason! Perhaps this should be a reminder that we shouldn’t just condemn the governments using these tools—but also the companies making them.

I’m assuming Apple and Google were aware of these tools out in the wild—nevermind the major wireless carriers. Ask yourselves this—why wasn’t this patched??? EDIT: Durr it was patched back in October 2016 when the tool was first publicly disclosed…for some reason I thought it remained unpatched to this day.

Food for thought—I once worked for a major wireless carrier that built secret back doors into phones at the behest of NSA, way back in 2010-2011. All this was disclosed by Snowden. But we also worked with other firms to monetize some of these secure back doors, because capitalism!

Doesn't look like it. The countries on the NOS customer list do not include China. Which doesn't mean China isn't hacking. Evidently, they're just not using this particular tool.

It should ALWAYS be assumed that Russia, China, and North Korea are in a constant state of both military and sponsored hacking activities. ALWAYS. They are the bad guys.

Russia got a pass when Donny Dumdum was president. China gets the pass because we are so fucking intertwined with them financially (thanks corporate America) so we are limited iresponses. onses. North Korea? Glad Donny Dumbfuck didn't get further with them or he would have given them access like he gave the Russians. For now, we can tell them to fuck off.

Pegasus software sounds super cool. Like, if you didn't already assume communications are able to be intercepted, this just confirms it. Even Alex Jones tranny porn burner phone isn't safe.
