League of Legends open beta anyone?

I'm seen it mentioned here and there, but not since the beta went open. Anyone playing?

Gameplay is simple in principle (DOTA style, I guess), but I can see how there'd be really in depth strategy if you had a coordinated group of players

HoN is a DOTA reskin for $30. LoL is F2P and actually expands on the genre. I'm not saying it's the best game ever. But "outclass" is way too strong and adjective. It is true in the graphics department if you have to have bleeding edge graphics or the game is bust for you.

After playing DoTA for 4 years and becoming bored with it, and then playing HoN, I was extremely underwhelmed to find that it was exactly the same except with a bit of a learning curve that wasn't there anymore in DoTA.

LoL is the first DOTA-type game I've played, so it's all new to me. My only concern is I can see how casting range attacks on minions, then running away, rinse repeat, can get old.

That basic strategy doesn't change until mid-late game when players start grouping to hunt down other players.

Eating McD's everyday really expands your waste size, doesn't mean that place isn't completely outclassed by any other restaurant. The acronym is LoL... the game was doomed from the beginning. Almost everyone who has played both will say HoN is far superior.

This game has a terrible installer. Just because I run Vista, it thinks I'm too stupid to turn off UAC and it won't let me install to my Program Files like I do for every other damn game I have.

EDIT:

Apparently, I couldn't install it to Program Files (x86) but I could install it to Program Files without a problem . I prefer putting 64-bit applications in Program Files (which is the point of the x86 tag on the other folder).

Anyone who plays the genre seriously will tell you DotA is far superior. HoN can't even think for themselves, they copy IceFrog's changelogs. Good thing is, IceFrog is now leading a team at Valve and assumedely a new DotA game will come.

This installation is pretty retarded. I downloaded the installer, but it was horribly out of date. It ended up downloading like 3 dozen minipatches one at a time to bring it up to date.

From what I've heard it should be quite noob friendly. Just play -em if you don't want to last hit. But I love last hitting so much

There is sharing of xp for just being around the area when an enemy minion dies. Except for one or maybe two specific spells, you can't target your own minions, so there's no denying a kill.

One gameplay complaint I do have, is the annoying over-cautious play in the beginning, which I think is due to the the high penalty for death. Early game you don't respawn for 20-30 seconds, during that time you don't get xp. Meanwhile the opponent who kills you gets a bunch of gold and xp. So there's massive incentive to play it safe, otherwise your opponents will leap ahead in lvls and items. It makes the gameplay boring.

Last hitting is a necessary skill if you want to improve in the game. You get lots more gold for last hitting a creep meaning you can buy your equipment much faster. It's not exactly hard to learn.

flashbacck - I disagree. The incentive is that if you kill the person you're laning against, YOU get those 20 or so seconds and they're put at the disadvantage. It's a constant balancing act of do I need to play it safe right now or can I push my advantage and get a kill? You obviously have to be playing the right hero since not every one has the same killing power early on in the game and know how to use them, among other factors.

The game sucks. HoN and Dota are much better. This feels so fucking slow and shitty. Game takes FOREVER, and I MEAN FUCKING FOREVER, to start because some bastard is taking 2 minutes to load the game. ?WTF?

LoL is lots of fun. I tried HoN and I it felt like a huge waste of time the 2 games I played. LoL's matchmaking is vastly superior and the UI makes a lot more sense, HoN has the stupidest item system I have ever seen where the shop lists items that you can't actually buy even if you have the gold. HoN has the overrendered graphics that are popular on some newer games but I am not really a fan, I'd rather have the colorful simple graphics of LoL.

I like the fact that LoL is actually different from dota in a few ways, denying was a stupid flaw of the warcraft3 engine and shouldn't have ever been part of the game, I'm glad it was removed.
