I have seen a bunch of threads started or threads that have evolved into troubleshooting problems with the Leadtek TV2000XP. Would like to create a consolidate thread for problems.

I just purchased one of these great cards last week, and I am nothing short of very impressed by the quality of this card for the price.

I did not install the software that came with the card. I went to Leadtek's website and downloaded the latest driver and client software:

1) Go to ftp://ftp1.leadtek.com/tv_tuner/TV2000XP/Driver/030130/ and download the following file:
ALL_TVDRV_30130.zip This is the updated driver for the 2000XP card.
2) If you plan on using TitanTV then download the latest software for the card at this location:
ftp://ftp1.leadtek.com/tv_tuner/WinFast PVR/EPG/Titan TV/ and download the following file:
ALL_TVAP_30130.zip This is the updated software for the 2000XP card.
3) Unzip the driver file from #1. Take note of the directory where the files were extracted to.
4) Install the Leadtek card into your computer.
5) When the OS asks for the driver for this new piece of hardware, point to the location noted in #3.
6) Continue pointing to the location in #3 until the OS is finished installing the drivers.
7) Unzip the software from #2 and run the setup file to install the client software.
8) Enjoy your new card!!

I have had no problems with FM or tuner related problems by following the steps above.

*** Note, these steps were accomplished on a Windows XP Pro system w/SP1 & all updated Pre SP2 hotfixes***.

If anyone has any steps for other OSs (Windows 95, 98, 2000, or 2003), please add them. As long as the updated driver and client software is loaded, everything should work fine.

True, however; some users are going to assume that the sofware that ships with the card will work. Experienced users check the web for updates, but the average person is going to load the software that comes with the card.

I tried all of that and everything works perfectly except I cannot setup FM configuration....the configuration button being pushed causes the app to hang *unless* I disable my Logitech QuickCam 3000 Pro's microphone first.

That's my work around, but I am looking for a solution....some have said DX9 and higher are problematic with the Leadtek card

I have some questions since i own the card. What was your audio setup in the software? What speaker system do you have? I was told in order to get it working with my speakers/sound card i needed to use the "mic out" option. I need an adaptor to get it to fit in the slot though. THe reason why i need to get it to work with my speakers is because if i just plug it straight into the audio port in card in the pci slot, i get a buzzing noise in the background in each speaker. I have the creative DTT5.1 2500 and hercules game theatre xp sound card.

Also, does your picture in picture work properly? When i first installed the card it worked nicely, but now for some reason when i press the pip button all i get is "pip is on". I don't see a little box with another channel though. I got it showing when i first installed the card, but since then no luck.

thanks.

I am very pleased with my card, but the only thing I can't seem to do is record sound (I have my logitech z-560's plugged into the TV 2000XP when I am watching TV, it records video fine using the XViD codec, but I don't know how to record sound)... does anybody know what to do?

No PIP here either, never tried it...only PIP ON like you have.

I am not sure what my audio setup is exactly but I am using aureal audio, Diamond MX300, and altec lansing ada885 speakers.

I got one of these, the now famous 'Winfast TV2000XP Deluxe' from Newegg.

Using the software from the CD. It worked and saw others saying they had trouble with the downloaded in other forums. Go figure. Anyway...if any of these questions can be solved with the software update I'll change that first.

Using an Athon XP1600+ along with this card, would like to do VCDs.
Have the slider set to max for quality - CPU runs 35% load.
Any way to take advantage of the extra CPU overhead to get better quality?

I'd also like to do SVCDs. 480x480 resolution is not an option when I go to create a new template. How would I add this or any other resolution that wasn't a preset?

Finally, is there any way to turn off the deinterlacing? With SVCD/DVD captures I'd prefer to keep them interlaced for playback on a TV.

1. Good question. The deinterlacing appears to just cut the resolution in half, as 640x caps w/the default software looks pretty crappy. Instead of the Leadtek software, use a program like VirtualVCR. Takes some setting up, but the interlaced caps look MUCH better when deinterlaced using a quality filter (tomsmocomp.)

2. The driver installation in the OP is good advice, HOWEVER, on my system, I had to install the factory software to get audio in VirtualVCR. NOTE: I do not use the factory software, but something in there is required by my system for audio. Go figure.

3. "I want to make S/VCDs." Great. Do some Googling or visit doom9.org. Capture uncompressed/or slightly compressed using Huff or MJPEG, then run it thru tmpgenc. It will look MUCH better than the on-the-fly software MPEG1/2 conversion that the Leadtek program uses.

Yeah, want to capture to AVI, but even then can't select 480x480 res. Though quick and dirty SVCD on the fly would be good too, all depends on if it's something you want to archive or something you just want to share with a coworker that he'll watch once. SVCD seems to have much better DVD compatability than VCD for that.

Can you use the remote with VirtualVCR?

Is there a FAQ for tips, tweaks, tuning of this card yet? If not hope this thread can result in one. Seems a LOT of people have this particular card.

Got my DV bridge for when I want to make high quality vid, convert later with TMPGenc. This capture card is mostly for "PVR" use and grabbing stuff that looks sorta interesting without much notice. That's why I'd really like to keep the remote, got this card in the box in the living room. Still, no reason not to get the most out of it. I'll grab the ftp software after work.

Make sure automatic restart after an error is not on....if it's software you will see what's conflicting.

It may be a hardware issue, if so try another slot.

Fact is, this card is a YMMV affair. I have two in my two Windows 2000 SP3 boxes and the card causes one of the machines to not shut down properly. I know of two other people having the same problem in Windows 2000 SP3 boxes. The workaround is to hit the power button when the machine hangs at shutdown. In my other machine, I am having good results but can't say there aren't bugs in the software. The 700+ post thread on this card documents all manner of problems. There's a guy who posted recently indicating that his system became irretrievably unstable due to problems caused by this card, so I think it wise to Ghost (or Image Drive) your system as a hedge against this eventuality = heads up! I have to say I am overall very pleased with the card and the software, however. But like I say, it's very YMMV. I think I am lucky since my problems have been relatively minor. I am recording FM with the card (using Total Recorder), having success recording TV programs in stereo, get PNP nicely. Always use Optimal Quality MPEG2. I'm not particularly into archiving video, so HD space isn't really an issue (watch once and delete). I've learned to use the latest version of the software efficiently for watching recorded (and live) video. Even the "Time Shifting" feature seems to work if you use it right, but I haven't been using it. I think it was introduced in the latest version of the application. TitanTV works fine for me scheduling recordings. I don't make files that are too large, though. Too big and FF is difficult. The workaround is to limit file size, in my case 3 GB/file. The software then breaks up recordings into 3 GB segments. I've had a few BSODs that I attribute (at least partially) to the card and/or software, but only occasionally.

hi, thanks for the tip i uninstalled all the hardware and tried again with the lastest drivers and this time the
winfast WDM crossbar driver installed correctly but now i am getting an error with the ethernet controller the install
wizard says that the hardware cannot be installed because it cannot find the necessary software
i have tried installing fom the cd, and drivers 30130 update but get the same error.
