Right got my GF3 about a month ago, and it has never lived up to my previous card, a Hercules GF2 GTS 64Mb.
3d Mark 2001 isn't giving me any problems, with a respectable score of 6039 (I expected more along the 8xxx mark though tbh). However in games the FPS are so shaky, ranging all the way from 20 to the games maximum, usually being between 100 and 200.
I wont over-exaggerate, the card isn't running badly, but I expected more for my $300, and am seriously considering putting it in a cupboard until a proper solution is found and reverting back to the GF2 GTS 64Mb.
I have tried:
- All versions of VIA drivers (Up to current, on *.37a atm)
- All versions of NVidia Detonator drivers (Up to current, on 23.11 atm)
- Leadtek Titanium drivers (Current and previous, not using atm)
- Formatted 5 times now, trying Win98SE, Win2000 and WinXP (On Win2000 atm)
- AGP Aperture Size (tried from 8Mb-256Mb, 128Mb atm)
- AGP 4x is ON
- Vsync is OFF
- Using NVidia Monitor Refresh Rate Fix, monitor doing 85Hz
- In games have tried resolutions from 320x240 - 1600x1200 with exactly the same result in FPS
I guess?:
- The card is ok, as 3d mark score is quite respectable
- My problem lies within driver/bios/directx/agp/etc.
- On the detonator installations, it says quite clearly if you own a Leadtek/Winfast to install their driver first, why? I don't know, but I have done this too. Must be some known problem?
I'm not really keen on overclocking it, as the card should run a beauty without me tampering with it manually. To add, I'm a hardcore game, and I don't like fancy graphics, I play all my games (preferably) in very low detail at 1024x768 absolute maximum.
This card is driving me absolutely nuts, but you all guessed that already.
