Leadtek Winfast 2000XP picks up the SAP broadcast, too

I am using my Leadtek Winfast 2000XP Deluxe as a PVR device, and it works much better than VCR tapes, except for one minor (well, major) problem. Whenver I record on channel 10, I not only hear the TV audio, I also hear the SAP (Secondary Audio Profile) audio coming thru the right speaker. This happens whenever I record on channel 10...scheduled or time-shifting.

I do not hear the SAP audio in normal, TV watching mode on channel 10 (unless the application launches and is on channel 10, then I hear it immediately, but can get rid of it by going up one channel, then back down to channel 10), but as soon as I hit the RECORD (time-shifting) button, the SAP audio immediately kicks in with the TV audio. I called the cable company and that's how I found out it was the SAP audio....all I knew before then was that it was an emergency weather broadcast.

Anyway, I have tried setting the audio recording settings to 'Mono' and/or 'Stereo', and I still get the SAP audio. No amount of tweaking will filter out the SAP audio. I cannot find any other Mono/Stereo/SAP settings for the time-shifting function, but that is not really my concern, as all of my recording is scheduled.

I can't use Dscaler because I am using this as a PVR and need the remote control functionality.

Is this a faulty card, in that SAP is not successfully filtered out during recording? OR

Is there a registry tweak or something that can rid me of this horrible annoyance (that forces me to revert to VCR tapes when recording shows on channel 10)?

I have tried contacting Leadtek, but they never reply.

If only it were that simple. SAP does not stand for SPAnish, it stands for "Secondary Audio Profile", which can be a simultaneous spanish broadcast if that's what the channel wants to do (like Monday Night Football). For my cable provider, Ch 10 is the FOX television network...and the extra audio I hear is not in Spanish...it's an English Emergeny Weather Broadcast. This same broadcast can also be heard continuously on Ch 15 (this is normal), and then again on Ch 7 (TBS) when I try and record.

Grab the lastest driver and PVR application(from late June '03), and it'll fix your problems.

Yes, that is correct. I finally recieved a reply from Leadtek technical support pointing me to the latest version of the app on their website. This is apparently a known problem with the older versions. Of course, when I initially installed the card a month ago I downloaded the latest version at that time, too, so the fix has not been available very long.

Great news for us Winfast 2000/XP owners. That SAP crap was driving me insane!! My cure for it, was to ditch my lousy cable and get DTV.
