Friend of mine bought a brand new Leadtek 7900GT Video card, he complains that even after installing the newest nvidia drivers the fan on the video card does not throttle back but whirrs at full speed. He has a NVidia 430 Based Motherboard it has onboard graphics and he has fitted his new 7900gt in the spare PCI Express Slot.

Any help would be appreciated. (-:

It's been discussed here before (maybe not with leadtek as the focus though). Basically all reference pcb designed 7900GT's only have one fan speed based on what people say around the 'net.

Oh. Ok. Thanks lots Gstanfor.

I have to say that its dissapointing - but nevermind, I will tell him that the whirring fan is "By Design". /-:

The funny thing is, my older 7800GT from Leadtek does has fan throttling - I'm so glad.

You can often use Rivatuner to slow it down through the driver, even if the card's BIOS doesn't do it automatically.

Ahh. Just found out the graphics card is not a Leadtek - its a XFX ... Not my brand of choice - but what do you do?!

You mean using rivatuner didn't work? I suspected it wouldn't. Probably the simplest thing is to purchase and install a 3rd party cooler for the card.

Gstanfor thanks for your advice. But I don't think my friend want to replace the cooler with another at this stage. /-:

Get an NV silencer and mod it a little bit. They are much quieter than the stock fan at idle.
