When everything is setup with Windows XP SP2 and all the latest drivers a problem occurs where any game I run has the problem of jerking. The game runs for a few seconds then it pauses for a few seconds then it carried on and then it pauses. This continues indefinitely.

I have tried SP1 and SP2, updating the BIOS and using older and the latest drivers for the graphics card and mainboard.

The games I have tried using even the latest updates and patches include: Half-Life 2, Far Cry and Boiling Point? Road to Hell.

The funny thing is. When I put the 6800GT into and Athlon XP 2800+ system it works perfectly.

I have also tried a 6600GT in this Athon 64 3200+ PC and it works perfectly too.

My System environment:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra-939
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 939
GFX: WinFast A400 GT TDH (6800GT) - DX9.0c - ForceWare 77.30
RAM: 2 x 512 Corsair Valueselect VS512MB400
O/S: Windows XP SP2
PSU: Antec TrueBlue 480W
HDD: Maxtor 120GB IDE 7200

check the programs running in the background. Sounds like you either have adaware or a program that is using up most of your CPU power

This is after a fresh install and not even installing anything other than drivers and the games I testing. Not even logging onto the internet.

Updated BIOS of card and mobo. Tried old driver and newest ones.

I have a 6600GT and an Nforce 3 mobo and had the exact same problem. There seems to be an occasional incompatibility that's specific to nforce 3 boards and 6xxx cards. I fixed it by forcing the same 2d and 3d clockspeeds with rivatuner (the stutters were caused by the card innappropriate adjusting its clockspeed), and moddified my card's bios to make it permanent.

I bought a leadtek 6800GT last week and installed it in my 3000+, NF3. I had the same problem with the latest NVidia 77.72 drivers. I even thought I didn't get all the old ATI drivers out, so I reinstalled the OS. Sam problem. I finally installed the Leadtek 71.84 drivers and it completely fixed the problem. I'm not sure why the NVidia drivers borked it, but I was really pulling my hair out trying to figure out what the problem was.

I tried the 71.84 drivers and they made no difference.

Another funny thing I found was the only game that I've installed that works is Doom 3. I also tried Morrowind this time and the same problem.

I am going to try the rivatuner suggestion tonight.

Display Properties, Settings tab, Advanced, Troubleshooting tab.
