currently running an intel 2.4c proc. p4p-800 asus mobo, i gig of corsair 466/3700 ram thermaltake 480 watt psu and the leadtek video card. yeah i know its almost stoneage by todays standards but it was my first build and it still works fine.
question; is it worth upgrading the g6 series to a g7 series video card like a 7800 or just tweaking the 6600 a bit until i build a new one from scratch again. i play a lot of Joint ops and need a little bit more juice i think out of this system. i have the processor running at 2.8 with stock cooling and voltage but have not touched the video card yet. it has the gddr3 memory on it and has an onboard overclocking tool.

just an older dude looking for some help from you younger/faster, lol gamers and overclockers. ! thanks in advance for any suggestions

hmm 2.8 p4 is a little on the slow side. if you decide to go the new system route i suggest getting one of those dirt cheap athlon 64s or opterons and a new mobo. you can reuse the rest of your stuff if u stick with agp.

my bro still games ok with my old 6600GT.

my advice:
get a new rig early in the new year.

> the 5400+/5600+/6000+ will be widely available by then which will push the price down on the 4600+ to about £120 and the C2D 6400 to about £140.
> 65w A64 CPU's up to 4600+ speeds will be standard, nice and cool.
> both ATI and NV will have released high end DX10 parts which should make a 7900GTO or X1900 very cheap.
> DDR2 pricing should have settled down by then, there may even be value brand DDR2-800 by then.
> wide availability of good NV and ATI motherboards at reasonable prices.

Build a brand new system next year. If you can hold out with your 6600, do it, if not look around for a cheap x850 xtpe or a varient. How much RAM does your system have? If its got 1 gig or more just up the video card for now, if its 512mb just add another 512 stick for cheap and up the card.

Its not as old as to call it stoneage :p Still pretty decent!

i have a gig of corsair 466/3700, another gig would be good but that stuff is still so expensive. i bought way more expensive memory than i needed too i think but hey its working fine. i will probably do the g7 series upgrade and build a new rig after some research in 07 sometime. dont know if it will make me a better gamer or not lol, but it will be fun buying it all and putting it together.

in the meantime i can get a better cooler for the 2.4c and put that past 3.0 and pump the 6600gt up a little too. i mean if we wanted to be safe we all would have bought Mac's right ??? lol. thanks again for your suggestions and have a great weekend wherever you are!
