mcafee corporate is way better than mcafee home, and is better than kaspersky as well, iirc.

Yeah, that's what we had until corporate made us switch to symantec. 🙁
 
The brand should be Symantec not Norton, the Norton products aren't affected.

Virus scanners all suck anyways. They are really like a virus in itself as they dramatically slow down your computer by autoscanning every folder your computer ever accesses.
On top of that, viruses constantly change, just like cold viruses, so that the anti-virus software(or immune system for cold viruses), cannot detect them. So even if you constantly run updates, you'll still get viruses.
So best way to not get viruses is to use a firewall, not go to shady sites, know your computer, and run periodic updated scans from sites like housecall.trendmicro.com

i always turn that feature off anyway. anything i download that may be shady gets scanned first. other than that there isn't much way for virii to get at my computer.
 
Norton makes such crappy bloatware anymore that I will not allow any of their applications on any machine I have to take care of. I have slowly weaned everyone from this junkware. All anti-virus duties have been handed over to AVG Anti-Virus (free version) and I have to say that this is an impressive package considering it's price. Not one virus has made it onto any of my machines since I started using it. Coupled with Firefox, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster, and Adaware all machines I deal with have been completely trouble free from net denizens for almost a year.

:laugh: Do tell how a firewall will prevent you from getting a virus, please. Not all virus scanners slow down your computer, atleast if you have a decent computer anyway. I run Kaspersky and notice no difference in my computers speed.

:roll: Many worms are directly sent to you through open ports. In fact, one of the most malicious worms that attacked a one or two years ago is automatically sent to you through a port as long as your computer is open and connected to the net.
