LCD's Backlight

I recently had a Dell Ultrasharp 2005 and hated the backlight, it was too bright for games in dark areas (ex. Doom 3, Far Cry, Max Payne 2).

Are all LCD's like this, with a bright backlight?

From what I have seen, all LCD's are bright. It's one of their features. The bad, as you found out, it's too bright for dark rooms. Also that brighness in a dark room is bad for your eyes. If you got an LCD, turn on a light.

most lcd's are bright. with age, that backlight will start to get dimmer though. ive seen lcd's brightness go down with a little over 2 years of use.

Well, in any case, a CRT is still the ultimate choice for gamers, correct?
